No more NBC on iTunes

NBC

Do you buy NBC TV shows on iTunes? Well, not anymore you don’t, the agreement between NBC and iTunes is coming to an end. According to The New York Times, NBC Universal has decided not to renew its contract, which expires in December, with iTunes. The reason cited is the inability to agree on the price of the media offered.

Personally, I don’t really buy TV Shows on iTunes or anywhere else for that matter. I’d rather buy the DVDs, mostly because I like to watch them on my TV and since you can’t burn the videos downloaded on iTunes, that just doesn’t work for me. Having said that, I think this is a very bad move from NBC. They are giving up on one of their best ways to advertise new shows to the public. How many people discovered some of their favorite shows because of iTunes?

The only way for NBC to be successful if they want to sell their videos themselves would be to create a very easy interface a la iTunes, have the same prices or lower, and for the videos to be iPod compatible, because this is an iPod-society.

However, this is not very likely to happen, according to the Press Release from Apple, NBC wanted Apple to pay “more than double the wholesale price for each NBC TV episode, which would have resulted in the retail price to consumers increasing to $4.99 per episode from the current $1.99.” I’m sorry, what? $4.99 for an episode?!!!! Who would pay that much? I already think $1.99 is overpriced for a single episode, but $4.99 would be the price of renting a DVD, which by the way would contain at least 3 episodes of a TV show. This is ridiculous.

I really hope NBC reconsideres and decides to renew its contract with iTunes because it’s always nice to know you have the option to buy the episode of your favorite show that you missed. What do you think about this? Do you buy TV Shows on iTunes?

Nothing to watch and a blast from the past

Scream

Is it me or does it feel like there is nothing to watch on TV right now? I look at my DVR but there is just nothing on it except a few movies here and there, which I am mostly done watching. It’s probably going to keep on being pretty empty until Fall TV shows start.

Why am I talking about this? I am getting there. Since I didn’t have anything to watch last night on my DVR, I decided to flip through the movie channels. And then a movie that made a big impact on me when it came out popped up: SCREAM.
I had to watch it, if not only for the fact that Jake Green Skeet Ulrich is in it. Young Skeet Ulrich who made such a big impression on me when I first watched Scream. Seriously, I memorized so many lines from that movie, I loved it.

Scream

After watching it again last night, let me tell you, it’s still as good as the first time I watched it. How genius was it to (and if you haven’t seen the movie yet - SPOILERS - but seriously though who hasn’t seen Scream?) have two killers?! Skeet Ulrich and Matthew Lillard are awesome.

All and all I am happy that my night without any TV shows to watch brought so many nice memories. Just thought I’d share this with you.
