David Tennant to be replaced on DOCTOR WHO

According to SyFy Portal, David Tennant who currently plays the Doctor in DOCTOR WHO, is set to leave the show after completing work for the Doctor Who specials for 2009.
Obviously, we all know how this will be explained in the show (in case you haven't been following, the Doctor will once again regenerate himself), however the question is, who will become the new Doctor?
While negotiations are still taking place, rumors are that Robert Carlyle is going to step in as the 11th Doctor.
Now here is my dilemma: I absolutely love David Tennant as the Doctor and I am really sad to see him go, but at the same time I think that Robert Carlyle (if the deal goes through) would be amazing as the new Doctor. This is like Sophie's Choice... but I guess ultimately this is out of my hands.
Update: Here is the original article that released the story if you would like to read it.
In addition, I have come across this article which states that Robert Carlyle has denied ever being approached to be the new Doctor on Doctor Who.

This paragraph casts doubt on the credibility of this speculation:
"Apparently for the last few months filming has been underway on the four Doctor Who specials. [NOT TRUE - they are still dealing with series 4] The first of which will be the 2008 Christmas Special followed by two specials in the year and ending with the 2009 Christmas special which is in its final six weeks of production now. [AGAIN NOT TRUE for the same reason] Tennant will officially have left the series in two weeks time when he finishes filming the final moments of the 2009 Christmas Special."
There has been a lot of speculation on this point, eventually, some of it might prove correct, but, even if he does leave at the end of the 2009 Christmas episode, there is a long way to go before they even begin production, let alone filming.
To expand on David's point, above: we know, from a Tennant interview with the Radio Times, that his schedule currently looks something like this:
until the end of April 2008: finish series 4, film 2008 Christmas special.
May 2008: a month off
June 2008 - 9 January 2009: Hamlet/Love's Labours Lost for the RSC.
10 January 2009 onwards: film three 2009 specials.
Assuming a nine week filming time for the three specials, filming should be finished by the middle of March 2009.
If he were to commit to Series 5 of Doctor Who, to broadcast in spring 2010, he would need to be available again sometime between May and July 2009 (filming on Voyage of the Damned started in July 2007, but they may move the schedule forward to allow some combination of more post-production time, a move to HD and an earlier start date).
If David Tennant hasn't already decided, I imagine he'll have to make a decision about whether or not to do Series 5 by the end of this year. This would still give Russell T Davies time to write a regeneration scene for the end of the 2009 Christmas Special. As far as casting a replacement is concerned, they could film his part of the regeneration scene during the first block of Series 5 shooting and have plenty of time to edit it into the 2009 Christmas special. David Tennant's brief appearance in 'The Parting of the Ways' was filmed months after Christopher Eccleston had done his regeneration scene.
David Tennant insists that he hasn't decided yet and one thing that is certain is that he doesn't need to have made a decision at this point. Even if he has, the production team are more than a year away from having to cast someone and are, themselves, in a transition (producer Phil Collinson is leaving after Series 4 has wrapped and executive producer Julie Gardner is handing over to Piers Wenger over the course of the three 2009 specials). I'd be very surprised if they'd make a casting decision now. Apart from anything else, I imagine they are quite busy trying to get the series finished.
I do hope that Tennant decides to stick around for season five. I love him dearly and for me the show just won't be the same without him.
yeah? So what about the regeration scene I just watched!?!
yeah what was with the regeneration scene?
i hope something happens and he doesnt regenerate
hes the best doctor by far
2 david tennant doctors - regen goes a bit wrong
The Dalek only blasted one of the Doctor's hearts...maybe he doesn't regenerate but instead repairs himself...maybe...hoping...he is the best doctor by far, would be sad to see him leave.
The Doctor regenerates into Davros. The two Davroses go on a killing spree on Earth but fall out over who's the ruler. Original Davros and Doctor Davros have another mini-time war with Doctor Davros using combined Time Lord / Dalek technology. So he wins easily and wipes out all the daleks so he can create a new hybrid dalek / time lord race. But before he can Donna realises that although there's nothing on her back there's something massive on her arse and throws off ANOTHER bug, hence reverting the whole dodgy mess back to before episode 11. And bringing back David Tennant.
Inspired piece of plot that .... with RTD going, you could stake your claim for the series 5 finale - plus a spin off show - The Something On Her Arse
i like dvid tennant to be the doctor cause i like his face. cause he filmed the christmas special. lol wow plzz put david tennant as the doctor.
It would be so sad if David Tennant left the show. All I know is that when he eventually leaves it, I'm gonna hate the 11th doctor no matter how awesome he is. Everybody hates the doctor that replaces their doctor. I have this friend who always watched the 5th doctor and when he was replaced, she wouldn't even watch the 6th doctor because he replaced her doctor. She won't even bring him up ever cuz she hates him so much. I really hope David Tennant doesn't leave the show.
PLEASE DON'T LEAVE THE SHOW, DAVID!!!
