DOCTOR WHO is coming back for a fourth season!
And thanks to our reader and Doctor Who fan, Matthew, who sent us some great videos links of previews for the season 4 of Doctor Who.
(Update: Quick update, I forgot to mention that Matthew also created a great Doctor Who Guide, non-spoilery, for Doctor Who novices, and can I say how much fun I had reading it as I was catching up on all three seasons! So check it out here.)
Check out the three videos below.
The first one is the new trailer for season 4 of Doctor Who, which apparently is being shown in British cinemas.
The second video is the preview for season 4 of Doctor Who that was shown at the end of season 3.
Finally, the third video is a compilation of 3 teasers for season 4 of Doctor Who. I was told that there were some minor spoilers in that video, so I haven’t watch it yet.
I hope you are all as excited as I am about the return of The Doctor!
Doctor Who season 4 premieres April 5th on BBC1 in England and on April 18th in the US on Sci-Fi with a 90-Minute Season Premiere.

I LOVE Doctor Who. And the videos look great. I am sad that Martha is not there anymore, but as long as the Doctor stays the way he is, I’ll keep watching Doctor Who. The BEST show on television!
Martha is still around, she just isn’t in every episode.
And part of the joy of Doctor Who is that the Doctor changes (nine times, so far!). However, it’ll be the same Doctor for this series and at least until 2010.
I thought we already knew that there was going to be a fourth season! What I definitely didn’t know is that it’s so soon. I would have sworn that last fall everyone was saying no new Who till 2009!
Oakling, there is going to be a break (of sorts) but it comes after Series 4. The UK broadcast schedule for Doctor Who for the next 2 years will probably look something like this:
April-June 2008: Series 4
December 2008: Christmas Special
Easter 2009: Special episode
Autumn 2009: Special episode
December 2009: Christmas Special
Spring 2010: Series 5
David Tennant is confirmed as the Doctor until at least the 2009 Christmas Special and the latest word (in The Independent newspaper) is that he’s “informally committed” to Series 5. Russell T Davies is writing all of the specials, and looks to be staying as show-runner for Series 5 as well. Apart from him, we will have a new production team by then, which is probably part of the reason for the break.
The idea is that, going forward, the show will take a break every 4-5 years or so keep things fresh and to help the handover between production teams.
They’re filming the 2008 Christmas special now, I think (either that or they’ll start soon). Once it’s finished, David Tennant will have a month off before going into rehearsals to play Hamlet for the Royal Shakespeare Company. He’ll be back in Cardiff in January 2009 to shoot the three 2009 specials. Rumour has it that production will continue straight into Series 5 in March/April 2009. If this is true, it is entirely possible that Series 5 will debut in January 2010, following straight on from the 2009 Christmas Special, and that this will become the production and transmission pattern for subsequent series.
How soon after UK transmission Sci-Fi will show these is anyone’s guess. I suspect that the remarkably short 20-day gap between UK and US transmission for this series is because of the writers’ strike.
DONT LET HiM LEAVE!
HE iS AMAZiNG! (L)
I’d like to see the series return to an Autumn slot.
