THE SARAH JANE ADVENTURES - New on Sci-Fi and Promo

The Sarah Jane Adventures

For the Doctor Who fans who can't get enough adventures, Sci Fi Channel is going to premiere THE SARAH JANE ADVENTURES on April 11th.

Why am I talking about it? Well, because The Sarah Jane Adventures is written and produced by the same people behind Doctor Who, including Russell T Davies.

Synopsis: Having traveled the universe with The Doctor, Sarah Jane (Elisabeth Sladen) finds life back on Earth is often just as mysterious, exciting and dangerous as exploring time and space in the TARDIS. Together with her new young friends, Maria (Yasmine Paige) and Clyde (David Anthony), and her newly adopted, genetically engineered son, Luke, Sarah Jane comes face to face with a whole host of evil alien monsters with unearthly plans for the human race.

Check out two promos for The Sarah Jane Adventures below.

Don't be put off by the fact that this is apparently aimed at kids. Effectively it's pretty much the same as Doctor Who (which is also aimed at kids, but not exclusively) but with teenagers in the main cast. And all the young actors are very good - with the possible exception of one who's in the opening special (Invasion of the Bane) but who (to the great relief of many) didn't make it to the series proper.

Actually, thinking about it, the child characters are pretty much the same age as the main Buffy characters (at least in Buffy season one) - the main difference being that they actually look their age. I'd definitely say that it fits into the "enjoyable for adults" category of shows like Kyle XY or Sabrina the Teenage Witch.

On the whole I'd thoroughly recommend this - and the penultimate story, "Whatever Happened to Sarah Jane", is, I think, as good as anything that Doctor Who or Torchwood has to offer.

Once things have settled into a regular pattern, the Friday Night Sci-Fi channel line-up is going to be:

    8pm: The Sarah Jane Adventure
    9pm: Doctor Who
    10pm: Battlestar Galactica

That's a pretty kick-ass selection, if you ask me.
