DVD Movie Review: DUCK
July 31, 2008

How about another DVD movie review? This week, Daemon’s Movies checks out Duck, a pretty sweet independent film.
Read their review below:
Yesterday I took a look at the newly DVD released DUCK.
Written and directed by Nic Bettauer, Duck follows the story of a retired widower (Philip Baker Hall) living in 2009 where Jeb Bush is the new president and social services have disappeared.
At the beginning of the movie, the widower finds a baby duck, which he brings back home with him and helps it grow up. The duck and other events lead him to be thrown out of his apartment, and he now has to live on the streets. With his duck, they go around Los Angeles in search of water. Throughout their journey, they meet different people who will challenge them along the way.
I hadn’t heard of Duck before getting the DVD, but I found it very original and sweet. Director Nic Bettauer and Philip Baker Hall have found a way to make us care about this duck through the widower’s interaction with it. I think the most fascinating thing is how the widower relates to the duck in the movie. The relationship feels so real that it’s hard not to be rooting for them. Philip Baker Hall is really great at creating this whole world around the duck. His performance is one of the reasons why the movie works.

Review: SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE “Top 6 Perform”
July 30, 2008
I’m back with an all new SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE review. Only problem is Redlasso has sort of shut down their services so I don’t have any videos yet (I will put them as soon as I can find them). Update: I have added pretty much all the videos except one. Enjoy!
Tonight was the last performance night before the finale and so I think it’s safe to say that the pressure was on.
Let’s find out how everybody did:

Courtney Galiano & Mark Kanemura
#1 Viennese Waltz
Choreography: Jason Gilkison
Music: “The Time Of My Life” by David Cook
Thoughts: Very beautiful and I just loved Courtney’s dress so much.
Rating: 3/4
Video:
#2 Jazz
Choreography: Sonya Tayeh
Music: “The Garden” by Mirah
Thoughts: That was a pretty awesome choreography, I loved it so much. And Courtney and Mark were totally in character, it was so great.
Rating: 4/4

DEXTER News Comic Con 2008
July 30, 2008

During our crazy trip at Comic Con, we attended the DEXTER panel and learned quite a few things about the coming season.
- There is going to be a huge shocking reveal in the first episode. Dexter sets something in motion that will change his life forever.
- Dexter will become more of his own man this season.
- Agent Lundy will not be back.
- Deb will have a new relationship.
- They actually thought of doing a Dexter musical episode. (Now I want to see that!) To which Michael C. Hall replied “Maybe we’ll do a live episode!” (Ha!)
- They are not planning a Dexter comic book for now.
- Jimmy Smits will play a new character this season.
- Dexter won’t become all good this season, because once he does the show is over (and might I add, I like “bad” Dexter.)
- Question: “Who has been your favorite kill so far (pause)…. in the show”
Michael C. Hall “Oh, thank God you said that. (audience laughs) It was satisfying to kill Little Chino.” He also added that killing Dexter’s mother’s killer was also satisfying.
- Dexter Season 2 DVD will be released on August 19.
- A Dexter video game will be released exclusively on iPhone and iPod touch. The game will be in episodic style and will make use of the phone, sms, and other phone attributes.
- When asked if she will be in Dollhouse, Julie Denz said that there was no talk of it but that she would love to work on it.

EUREKA Panel Video Comic Con 2008
July 30, 2008
Check out videos from the EUREKA Comic Con panel.
This was the last panel I attended and even though I was tired out of my mind, it was one of my favorite TV panels because the cast was just so fun (as you can tell from the videos below).
And so enjoy the videos and don’t forget to watch Eureka on Tuesdays at 9pm on Sci Fi. (You can also check out pictures from the Eureka Panel here.)

TRUE BLOOD News Comic Con 2008 Panel
July 29, 2008
During Comic Con, we were able to go to HBO’s TRUE BLOOD panel, and since I hadn’t seen that much about the show, I was curious to hear about it.
The True Blood panel had appearances by creator Alan Ball, Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, Ryan Kwanten, Rutina Wesley, Sam Trammell, Nelsan Ellis, and book author Charlaine Harris. (You can see pictures from the True Blood panel here.)
Here are some of the things we learned about the show:
- The show follows the books it is based on. Alan Ball said he was trying to stay as close to the book as possible.
- In True Blood, vampires are known from the public, but not accepted even though they do not feed on humans anymore (they have a special drink that fulfills their needs like blood does).
- We won’t learn why Sookie (Anna Paquin) is telepathic in the first season.
- “Fang Bangers” are people who want to hook up with vampires, ha!
