TRUE BLOOD Season 2 Favorite Character: Godric

Allan Hyde as Godric

Allan Hyde as Godric

As part of the True Blood Season 2 Labor Day Weekend Survival Kit, we wanted to highlight our favorite character of this season of True Blood: Godric.

Who is Godric?

Godric is a 2,000-year-old vampire who still looks like a teenager and is said to be the oldest known vampire. He is also the sheriff of Area 9. He is played by the 20 year old Danish actor Allan Hyde.

In which episodes does Godric appear?

Godric appears in four episodes of the Second season of True Blood.

The first episode is "Never Let Me Go" in which he appears as a flashback of his first encounter with Eric. The big reveal here is when we find out that he is Eric's maker. Check out the scene below.

The second episode is "Release Me" in which he only makes a brief appearance in the final scene of the episode and saves Sookie from an attacker. Definitely, a cool scene where we can't help by being struck by how cool he is.

The third episode is "Timebomb" in which he comes across as the most reasonable and spiritual vampire to date. One memorable scene of the episode is when he puts Lorena in her place in one of the scariest and most cheertastic way. Check out the scene below (Godric appears 02:45 into the scene).

The fourth and final episode is "I Will Rise Up" in which he decides to take the blame for the whole Fellowship of the Sun disaster and sacrifices himself in one of the most compelling scenes.

Why we like Godric?

We like Godric because he exudes a charisma and presence that affects you in a deep and emotional way. He inspires a healthy mix of respect and fear which translates to beautiful scenes. Even though he was young, the 2000 years of experience have definitely left him with wisdom that pushed him to do something as risky as letting the Fellowship of the Sun kidnap him. Even moments before his death, he showed a certain level of greatness that is simply unparalleled in the True Blood world.

For all those reasons, Godric is our favorite True Blood character this season.

So what do you think? Is Godric your favorite character this season?

Absolutely! The character of Godric was the best so far on this series. Definitely this actor did an excellent job of conveying the wisdom and age in his acting and mannerisms and his weariness of the world. I would love to see this guy in other things and Godric's character will be missed. I'm sorry he could not have been in more episodes.

Yes, definitely! Godric is my favorite. It usually takes me awhile to warm up to characters, but with him.... Within a few short appearances, he became one of my most favorite fictional characters ever.

P.S-I sobbed when he died. I usually don't get THAT emotional over television.

@dina, I am with you. That last scene was extremely powerful, a testament to great storytelling and great acting

I definitely agree that Allan Hyde shined this season on True Blood. Godric is a character that will long be remembered by myself and many of my friends and family. There just wasn't enough of him, but hopefully we'll be seeing more of Allan Hyde!

the best character of season two is Eric... the massive Jump that Alexander Skarsgard has made from his little role in season one to season two is awesome. I kinda wish they would skip right past season three and go to season four cos if they are following the books it would be all Eric all the time

I am torn between Godric who pulled me in so quickly (and whom I am still sad had to die - just watched that scene again last night), Eric who did make a fantastic jump in character in just one season as Maree said, and Lafayette who I also think made a terrific jump. This season Lafayette has been serious, tough, badass, and still wise cracking as ever.

I love Godric. He is my favorite character of the TrueBlood universe.

However, we mustn't forget this character is called Godfrey in the books and appears in the second of the series.

I would say Godric is definately my favorite character of this season, I also love the growth of Eric's character due to their dynamic. Godric had wisdom way beyond the years his physical appearance portrayed and let us see the deep connection between maker & makee in the vampire world...

His last scene had to be the most moving intense sense in TB yet...and I really am say that Ball decided to go through with the roof top scene, I would have like to see more Godric and hopefully we will in flashbacks eventually...

Also, I like Godric a lot better than that Godfrey character in the book, they are very much different and I perfer Ball's version most definately

I think the only thing Godric and Godfrey had in common were that they had both offered themselves up to the Fellowship of the Sun. Alan Ball made Godric into a much more fuller and more interesting character.

um YEAH. i got to this site out of a google search for godric. Halfway through his intervention with Lorena, I literally said aloud to the tv screen, "I LOVE you." Now obsessed with the sensational actor behind Godric, Allan Hyde. He's only 19, isn't that amazing? Certainly we don't see that many 19 year old American actors demonstrate that kind of presence or authority oncreen.

stella - I would have to agree. In fact, if you even compare Allan Hyde and Godric to Rachel Evan Wood and Queen Sophie Anne, you find a tremendous different in presence and talent. At least, in my opinion.

I don't remember the last time a actor has touched me as passionately as Allen Hyde did playing Godric. I cried when he died. How can I let HBO know how much this character meant to me? I so hope and pray they can somehow bring him back....he was that good!!! No that great!!!!!

Godric is one of my favorite characters. Though he was only there a short he made a great impact. When he died I cried harder than Sookie! I will miss Godric> I wish there was a way to bring him back I don't care how as long as he could come back. "bows to Godric"

The best scene of the whole season was when Godric made Eric. He exuded danger and sex.
They should bring back this guy.

I totally agree! My favorite TB character ever! I want him back! Flashbacks, flashbacks, 1000 years of Eric + Godric flashbacks!

Allan Hyde played this role exceptionally! Godric wound up being my favourite character thus far. I thought that the Godric/Eric storyline was the best part so far of the entire season, let alone the entire show. There was so much potential depth there that it was very sad to see it end so soon. My only hope is that they can bring in some of the storyline through the next few seasons so that Godric isn't completely dead...or who knows perhaps a sister show about Godric?

I think it is a big mistake killing Godric!! he is a very very interesting character, even his background is interesting. They could have developed this personality more and dug into his passed.

Why did they not make Godric's death a dream of Bills girlfriend. I think this should be a twist. BRING BACK GODRIC don't make a mistake......

Yes Godric was a shining example of perfect casting and would be wasted if that was his only time in the show.
In reality his offering himself to the sun could easily have been a part of sookie's dream as the scene after godrics demise shows sookie with eric in his room from which she wakes up in the car!
    Lets hope so!
