CALIFORNICATION "The Land of Rape and Honey" Early Review (Season 3 Episode 2)

Ed Westwick as Balt and David Duchovny as Hank in Californication

I was able to get my hands on an early copy of season 3 episode 2 of CALIFORNICATION "The Land Of Rape and Honey," which airs on October 4 at 10pm on Showtime. Episode 1 got off to such a killer beginning that I had full confidence in episode 2, even if the title was a little bit disturbing. I love it when I'm right. So here's the dirt:

Charlie continues to pursue Marcy's affections but it looks like he's going to have to work harder than he thought if he wants her back. When Charlie makes some unwelcomed advances towards her, it turns into a bit of an ordeal.

Meanwhile, Hank has taken a teaching job as a university writing professor (which most you probably already know based on previews and advertisements that have ran). Okay so Hank + a position of authority + barely legal girls...doesn't this sound like a recipe for disaster? So far it looks like he's going to be able to control himself when it comes to the cute students, however, he was unable to hold back his feelings about a student's (Ed Westwick from Gossip Girl) writing. This lands Hank and the student in serious trouble.

Becca is also changing this season. She's not the dark, witty Goth she was in seasons past, but rather a pubescent biatch that has some serious problems with authority (I wonder where she gets it from). I always thought she was too normal given all the drama that her parents are always putting her through.

So all in all, great episode, make sure you check it out and let me know what you think. My only gripe so far is that Karen hasn't been in this season enough. She's one of my favorite characters and Season 3 needs more of her! Does anybody have the scoop as to why this might be? Is the actress working on a different project or something at the moment?

Stay tuned!

The reason they had Natasha McElhone's Karen move to NY is that when they began filming she was pregnant. I guess they decided having Karen pregnant too wasn't going to work so they moved her to New York, leaving Hank and Becca in L.A. Also, her rather young, healthy doctor husband dropped dead at their home in London when they were filming, so she needed some time off to try and deal with that tragedy, two kids and one on the way.

Marie - I had no idea, that is horrible! Wow. My thoughts go out to her and her family.

Yep. It really is terrible. They were married for about ten years I think, he was a very well-known, popular London plastic surgeon, and she was pregnant with baby number three when he died suddenly. He was 42, I believe. The child, a boy, I think was born in January. If you Google her you can get the whole story, but that's pretty much it. She is apparently coping rather well, considering.
