HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER "The Rough Patch" Review Season 5 Episode 7
What did you think of tonight's episode of How I Met Your Mother, "The Rough Patch"?
I thought it was an incredible episode but I'm actually feeling kind of down after this one. I guess last week's scenes with Barney and Robin fighting was foreshadowing their breakup this week. Darn.
Before we get into Barney and Robin though, I want to first talk about the very first scene of the show. I'm talking about the quick look at Ted's kids in the year 2030. What did you think of them? I thought the boy looked exactly like Ted (makes sense), and that the girl looked similar to Robin. Did anyone else think the same? I mean just because the girl had long brown hair, it in no way means that Robin is the mom, I'm just pointing it out. The oldest kid (the girl) looked to be about 16 years old. That means, if it was 2030, Ted will have her in about 5 years. I was trying to find something else from the scene that might indicate how the mom is. There appeared to be a family photo in the background but it was too blurry for me to make out. The only other clue that could possibly point to Robin was the liquor that appeared to be scotch on the shelf behind the kids. Let me know what your take on this scene was.

Despite all the funny parts of "How I Met Your Mother" Rough Patch, I was still really saddened by the ending. I feel like they didn't give Barney and Robin enough time as a couple. I think they could have done more with the two of them. Also, their conversation about breaking up was so candid, mature, and out of character for both of them it just made it that much more emotional. I can't wait to see what happens next week!

Robin is definitely not the mother. We learned this after the first episode. And every subsequent episode. 'Aunt Robin'. Their mother was in Ted's class on his first day at his new job. Plus the girl doesn't really look like Robin either. She just has brown hair.
Didn't really enjoy the episode. Barney and Robin have been weirdly handled all season. Too much focus on their relationship, too many relationship cliches that neither of them would get sucked into. It kind of ruined the entire relationship between them for me, including the friendship. As much as I like them being back to normal, its damaged the show for me in the process.
