NEW YORK – November 17, 2009 – A&E Network announced today a new original real-life series, "Bob Saget's Strange Days," (working title) which busts down barriers to investigate some of America's most fascinating and mysterious worlds. Documenting his journey around America, Saget immerses himself in different unusual cultures from the world of mail-order brides to joining a survivalist cult prepping for the end of the world to rushing a fraternity. The series is currently in production on seven one-hour episode slated for premiere in 2010.

Best known for his roles as the loveable Danny Tanner in "Full House," the host of "America's Funniest Home Videos" and for his hilarious stand-up comedy routines, Bob Saget definitely has a unique view of the world.  His unflinching observations about offbeat people and lifestyles in his stage performances have sparked him to take a more in-depth, hands-on investigation of this subject matter. He'll go from the back of a Harley with a biker gang, to prepping for the end of civilization with a secretive survivalist group, to living with a group of partying Amish teenagers before they decide on whether or not they'll commit to be baptized as Amish adults, to submerging himself in the world of mail order brides.

"Bob Saget's Strange Days" will enable viewers to get an insightful understanding of what makes individuals tick in these alternative lifestyles and daring situations.  Bob will also uncover the humanity and the shared values inside all of these odd and absurd situations that each of us will be able to relate to.

A&E Greenlights BOB SAGET'S STRANGE DAYS

In light of the tragic passing of beloved actor Patrick Swayze, A&E will honor his memory on Wednesday, September 16th, with a special presentation of Bio Remembers: Patrick Swayze at 10PM EST/PST and a marathon of The Beast from 2:00PM EST/PST 6:00PM EST/PST along with an encore showing of The Beast at 11:00PM EST/PST.

"We are saddened by the loss of one of our generation's greatest talents and a member of the A&E family, said Bob DeBitetto, President & General Manager, A&E Network, Patrick's work on 'The Beast' was an inspiration to us all. He will be greatly missed and our thoughts are with his wife Lisa and his entire family during this difficult time."

The Beast starring Patrick Swayze and Travis Fimmel premiered January 15, 2009 on A&E. In The Beast, the mischievous Barker (Swayze) hazes his young partner Dove (Fimmel) as they go undercover case after case. Barker brilliantly manipulates situations, constantly tests his new partners abilities and pushes him to delve deeper into the roles of the undercover characters he creates. Although Dove takes a liking to Barker, the new job takes its toll on him. The stress and danger of being an agent quickly makes him realize that he can no longer maintain normal relationships outside of work. Yet thats not the worst of it. The rookie is confronted with a larger challenge: An FBI Internal Affairs team feels Barker may have gone rogue and they try to enlist Dove as a double-agent in the bureau's investigation of his mentor.

The Beast (Season One)

Synopsis: The Beast centers on an unorthodox but effective FBI veteran, Charles Barker (Swayze), who takes on a rookie partner, Ellis Dove (Fimmel). Barker trains Dove in a hard-edged, psychologically driven approach towards undercover work, where a moment's hesitation can lead to death.

Recommendations: I admit to only giving one episode of The Beast a shot, and although it was enjoyable, I think that I already had too many shows to watch to really get into a new one. But if you enjoy undercover cop shows, you might enjoy it.

Dexter (The Complete Third Season)

Synopsis: "Dexter" is based on the compelling novel "Darkly Dreaming Dexter" by Jeff Lindsay, a South Florida native. Orphaned at the age of four and harboring a traumatic secret, Dexter is adopted by a police officer who recognizes Dexter's homicidal tendencies and guides his son to channel his gruesome passion for human vivisection in a constructive way - by killing those heinous perpetrators who are above the law or who have slipped through the cracks of justice. A respected member of the police force, a perfect gentleman and a man with a soft spot for children, it's hard not to like Dexter. Although his drive to kill is unflinching, he struggles to emulate normal emotions he doesn't feel, and to keep up his appearance as a caring, socially responsible human being.

Recommendations: Dexter is without a doubt one of the best shows on TV, but you probably already know this if you're interested in checking out season 3. This is also perfect timing if you want to be ready for Season 4, which premieres on September 27.

Dirty Sexy Money (The Complete and Final Second Season)

Everybody Hates Chris (The Final Season)

Synopsis: Inspired by his childhood experiences, comedian Chris Rock narrates the hilarious, touching story of a teenager growing up as the eldest of three children in Brooklyn, New York, during the early 1980s. Uprooted to a new neighborhood and bused into a predominantly white middle school two-hours away by his strict, hard-working parents, Chris struggles to find his place while keeping his siblings in line at home and surmounting the challenges of junior high. This responsible, resilient adolescent brings a distinct, funny spin to his everyday trials and traumas, in the critically acclaimed, single-camera comedy "Everybody Hates Chris."

Recommendations: I have been a fan of Everybody Hates Chris since it first started. It is a really funny half hour comedy show.

Synopsis: Gossip Girl revolves around the lives of privileged teenagers attending an elite private school in New York City's Upper East Side.

Recommendations: I don't think I loved season 2 as much as season 1 of Gossip Girl, but you might want to check out the DVD anyway to be up to date for the season 3 premiere this Fall.

Greek (Chapter 3)

Synopsis: The fun, the friendship, and a new kind of drama continue in the engaging ABC Family original series Greek. Chapter Three brings a new year with new pledges and new challenges. Rusty's fraternity life takes some interesting twists when he moves into the Kappa Tau house. Meanwhile, in a battle for the pledges' affections, Casey and Frannie spill each other's past secrets, and Hell Week at Cyprus-Rhodes University creates havoc up and down Greek Row. The gossipy fun of Greek: Chapter Three comes complete with a captivating and talented ensemble cast as well as an irresistible soundtrack.

Recommendations: Greek is probably the show that surprised me the most by how good it was when I first saw it. And now, three season into it, I am still totally addicted.

Recommendations: Sons of Anarchy is such a brilliant show. The cast is amazing and the stories are really compelling. You should absolutely check it out before season 2 premieres on September 8.

Swenton (Esteban Powell) meets an alcoholic father (Paul Schulze) and his 10-year-old daughter (Madeline Carroll) on the bus and decides he needs to help get the father into treatment. Jonathan seeks William's help again in cleaning up his parents, who are the epitome of a codependent alcoholic couple. As Jonathan’s wedding approaches, William helps him realize he in fact is an enabler and that unless he changes his ways, there is little help for those around him getting clean. Melissa (Amy Price-Francis) serves William with divorce papers.

THE CLEANER "Hello America" Season 2 Episode 1

Season 2 of A&E's THE CLEANER premiers this Tuesday, June 23rd and I had the chance to check out the first couple episodes today. If you're not familiar with the show, it's about this guy William Banks (Benjamin Bratt) who struck up a deal with God where if he got off drugs he'd help others to do the same. It's a true story actually (I know that sounds hard to believe). He's got this little crew that he works with and they go on these missions to get people clean. Basically they are like cops, but instead of chasing down bad guys, they hunt down druggies. William also has plenty of personal drama, mostly involving his wife Melissa and his two kids. At the end of season 1 Melissa is looking for some space and decides to try a separation from William.

Season 2 picks up where Season 1 left off. In episode 1, William moves back in with Melissa for the week while her parents are in town (since they aren't aware of the separation). Her parents don't seem to understand the line of work that William has chosen for himself. A famous news anchor and old friend of William's gets back into drugs and alcohol when his wife begins losing her battle with ovarian cancer. In episode 2, William and son Ben plan on having some father and son time when 2 unexpected cases come up. With no choice but to bring his son along, William tries to help a friend of his dad's, Duren (Joe Don Baker). Through Duren, William learns of another addict that needs his help. Ben proves to be helpful in the case when he's able to relate to the son of one of the addicts.

One thing you will love about Season 2 is that it's packed with guest stars. Episode 1 features Whoopi Goldberg and Gary Cole, just to name a few. On a personal note, this show is a little too dark for my taste. I don't think we see William smile more than a few times in each episode. This is probably fine for some, but I don't like drama's that don't provide a little comic relief here and there. Also, William's, rag-tag pose of helpers seems a little clichéd. First you have Akani, the hot chick, who wears skin tight clothing and a hard street wise attitude. Then there is the flawed, "Arnie" who always seems to be messing up. It may be a true story, but it's not a unique one. I give it an 'A' for Bratt's performance, and 'A' for guest star power, but a 'C' on originality.

Recommendations: I have never been a fan of The Shield, or I guess I should say that I didn't start watching it the first season, and then never caught up. But I have watched a few episodes here and there and understand why so many people love it. A lot of my friends love it too, and I have to admit the acting is pretty powerful. But since this is the final season, I don't really think I have to convince you guys to watch it, since most of you are probably already fans.

The Cleaner (The First Season)

Synopsis: "The Cleaner," inspired by the true story of a real-life "extreme interventionist," follows William "The Cleaner" Banks, who, after hitting rock-bottom from his own addictions after the birth of his daughter, strikes a tentative deal with God. Now along with his unconventional team, he helps people get away from their addictions by any means necessary.

Cast: Benjamin Bratt, Grace Park, Esteban Powell, Amy Price-Francis, Kevin Michael Richardson, Liliana Mumy, Brett DelBuono

Recommendations: I really enjoyed season 1 of The Cleaner. I wasn't sure about the first couple of episodes, but then really got into it. It's not my favorite show, but I think it's definitely worth a look. Plus now is the perfect time to catch up since Season 2 will premiere on June 23.

New TV on DVD Releases for the Week of June 9 2009

Tonight, May 27, A&E will premiere its new real life series, TATTOO HIGHWAY, at 10pm.

Tattoo Highway follows Thomas Pendelton (star of former A&E's "Inked") and his mobile tattoo shop as they go on the road to different cities including Los Angeles, Phoenix and Salt Lake City meeting people that they will tattoo and learning about their true life stories.

After watching the first episode, I can say that Tattoo Highway is pretty much Miami Ink on wheel. I personally really enjoy watching Miami Ink and so enjoyed Tattoo Highway as well. Although I have to say that so far I feel that some of the stories of the people they tattoo are a little less compelling than in Miami Ink or LA Ink. I'm not sure why yet, maybe it's the way the show is edited together.

On the other side, I feel we take more of a journey with Thomas Pendelton that will not only change the lives of people he tattoos, but also his life.

I am usually not a fan of reality shows, but these types of series are different because they show a real life stories. So if you too enjoy these stories or just like tattoos, you might want to give Tattoo Highway a chance when it premieres tonight at 10pm on A&E.

Giveaway: A&E's TATTOO HIGHWAY Prize Pack

After the success of The Cleaner, A&E will premiere its new original series, THE BEAST, tonight, January 15, at 10pm.

Starring Patrick Swayze and Travis Fimmel, The Beast follows FBS veteran, Charles Barker (Swayze), who takes on a rookie partner, Ellis Dove (Fimmel). It is the typical old cop trains young cop type of show with an edge.

Before I get too much into the show, I have to first let you know that I usually am not a big fan of cop shows, and that has nothing to do with their quality, it's just not my thing, so keep that in mind when I share my opinion of The Beast.

The first episode throws you right into the action as we meet Charles Barker and Ellis Dove, two FBI agents in an undercover mission. We soon realize that Dove still has a lot to learn from his mentor.

However the strong start is soon overcome by some boring moments as we follow Dove go about his day. Between meeting a love interest and some crazy drug addict, I was starting to wonder where all of this was going. I am glad to say however that they got me back towards the end. Barker and Dove pull off some crazy undercover moves, but that's not the best part. Turns out an FBI Internal Affairs team thinks that Barker might have gone rogue and tries to enlist Dove to become a double agent.

I have to admit that the setup was done pretty well because as I was watching the episode, I kept thinking to myself that maybe Barker was dirty (I hadn't read the synopsis for the episode so didn't know about it). It's the perfect balance between is he good or is he bad, and I think some of the credit is due to Patrick Swayze's portrayal of Barker.

As for Travis Fimmel, he gave Dove that quality of the young cocky cop, who thinks he knows everything but soon finds out he doesn't. I didn't know of Travis Fimmel, but I have to say it's great casting.

As I mentioned previously, this is not usually my type of show but I actually want watch more episodes to see where this is going, so that's saying a lot.

So would I recommend the show? I think the show has a lot of potential and some great acting, so if you don't have anything else to watch tonight, January 15, at 10pm, you might want to give it a shot.

Don't forget that The Beast airs on Thursdays at 10pm on A&E.

Giveaway: CRISS ANGEL Prize Pack

A&E's new original series, THE CLEANER, premieres tomorrow, July 15, at 10pm.

The story follows, William “The Cleaner” Banks (Benjmain Bratt) and his team, as they try to get people clean by any means necessary (really, any means).

When I first heard about The Cleaner I was intrigued. Then I saw a promo and I was really excited to check out the first episode. I finally sat down to watch the first episode, and although it didn't live up to all my expectations, I think it is worth checking out.

To me the story could have spent a little more time making us care about the team. Unfortunately, I think
they tried to focus on too many different characters from the team, instead of focusing on more William and less on the people from his crew, at least for the first episode.

However, even though the episode wasn't all that I wanted it to be, I totally got hooked because of what happens at the end of the episode. I just wasn't expecting it at all and it just changed the tone of the show at least for the next few episodes and I am really looking forward to more.

Now on to the actors. I totally believe that Benjamin Bratt is William. He has the look and attitude that makes this guy believable. And I think that's the most important thing, especially if we're going to believe that the team respects and trusts him.

William's crew includes:

Akani Cuesta, played by Grace Park, who plays a really different part than in Battlestar Galactica. Kind of fun to see her doing something different. We don't see her that much in the pilot, so I'm waiting for future episodes to find out more about her character.

Arnie Swenton, played by Esteban Powell. I am really curious to see this character gets developed because I just loved his storyline in the premiere. And of course Esteban Powell is really, really good.

Darnell McDowell, played by Kevin Michael Richardson. I don't want to say too much about this character because his storyline is sort of intertwined with things that happen towards the end of the episode.

Mickey Efros, played by Gil Bellows. I loved this character and he is probably my favorite from the crew. I don't want to say to much about his storyline either, because I want you to discover it as you watch the episode. So I'll leave it t that.

Then there's William's family, but to be honest, I didn't really care that much for this part of the show. If I tune into The Cleaner it's to see people get cleaned, not to see William's home life, so if they keep it to a minimum, then I'm fine with that.

Overall, the pilot of The Cleaner will definitely leave you wanting for more. I was actually really shocked, in a good way and I just cannot wait to see more episodes.
