Here is a list of the new TV DVD Releases for the week of August 18 2009 (for movie releases head over to Daemon's Movies):

The Beast (Season One)
Synopsis: The Beast centers on an unorthodox but effective FBI veteran, Charles Barker (Swayze), who takes on a rookie partner, Ellis Dove (Fimmel). Barker trains Dove in a hard-edged, psychologically driven approach towards undercover work, where a moment's hesitation can lead to death.
Cast: Patrick Swayze, Travis Fimmel
Recommendations: I admit to only giving one episode of The Beast a shot, and although it was enjoyable, I think that I already had too many shows to watch to really get into a new one. But if you enjoy undercover cop shows, you might enjoy it.
Buy it: THE BEAST on Amazon

Dexter (The Complete Third Season)

Synopsis: "Dexter" is based on the compelling novel "Darkly Dreaming Dexter" by Jeff Lindsay, a South Florida native. Orphaned at the age of four and harboring a traumatic secret, Dexter is adopted by a police officer who recognizes Dexter's homicidal tendencies and guides his son to channel his gruesome passion for human vivisection in a constructive way - by killing those heinous perpetrators who are above the law or who have slipped through the cracks of justice. A respected member of the police force, a perfect gentleman and a man with a soft spot for children, it's hard not to like Dexter. Although his drive to kill is unflinching, he struggles to emulate normal emotions he doesn't feel, and to keep up his appearance as a caring, socially responsible human being.

Cast: Michael C. Hall, Jennifer Carpenter, David Zayas, James Remar, Julie Benz, Erik King, Lauren Vélez, Brad William Henke, Mark Pellegrino

Recommendations: Dexter is without a doubt one of the best shows on TV, but you probably already know this if you're interested in checking out season 3. This is also perfect timing if you want to be ready for Season 4, which premieres on September 27.

Dirty Sexy Money (The Complete and Final Second Season)

Synopsis: After the death of his father in a helicopter crash, idealistic lawyer Nick George (Peter Krause) is convinced to take over his role as family attorney for the impossibly wealthy Darling dynasty: industrialist Tripp (Sutherland) and his socialite wife Letitia (Jill Clayburgh), plus their children Patrick (William Baldwin), Brian (Glenn Fitzgerald), Karen (Natalie Zea) and Jeremy (Seth Gabel.) Nick's efforts to uncover the truth about his father's death play second fiddle to his job as all-purpose fixer for the Darlings, whose little difficulties include keeping politician Patrick's transgendered mistress under wraps, four-time divorcee Karen's ill-advised engagement to her father's most dangerous enemy and Letitia's upcoming trial—for the murder of Nick's father. The Second and Final Season of the juiciest hour-long drama on TV heats up as ruthless prosecutor Nola Lyons (Lucy Liu) hounds Letitia in and out of the courtroom, and scheming businessman Simon Elder (Blair Underwood) hatches a scheme that threatens to destroy Darling Enterprises.

Cast: Peter Krause ("Six Feet Under"), Donald Sutherland ("Path To War," "Fool's Gold"), William Baldwin (Noise, The Squid and the Whale), Natalie Zea ("Without A Trace," "The Shield," "CSI"), Glenn Fitzgerald ("Law & Order," "Six Feet Under"), Seth Gabel (The Da Vinci Code, "Nip/Tuck"), Lucy Liu (Charlie's Angeles), Blair Underwood ("In Treatment"), Zoe McLellan (Conversations with God, "J.A.G") and Jill Clayburgh (An Unmarried Woman, Running With Scissors)

Recommendations: Dirty Sexy Money was a fun, entertaining show, with a pretty good cast. I think this is worth renting if you feel like watching a relaxing show.

Buy it: DIRTY SEXY MONEY on Amazon

Eli Stone (The Complete Second Season)

Synopsis: Corporate litigator Eli Stone (Johnny Lee Miller) went from legal barracuda to cockeyed optimist overnight after suffering a brain aneurysm. Now instead of representing deep-pocketed corporations in court, he has musical visions that awaken a newfound social conscience. In Season Two of the most original legal drama on television, Eli convinces his hard-nosed boss Jordan Wethersby (Victor Garber) that pro bono is the way to go. But there's no way Wethersby's daughter (and Eli's former fiancée) Taylor (Natasha Henstridge) is going to let her dad change the firm's direction without a fight. Eli Stone: The Complete Second and Final Season features guest appearances by Katie Holmes, Taraji Henson, Sigourney Weaver, Katey Sagal and Seal.

Cast: Johnny Lee Miller (Aeon Flux, Trainspotting), Victor Garber (Milk, "Alias"), Natasha Henstridge ("Commander in Chief," Species), James Saito (Devil's Advocate, Thomas Crown Affair), Matt Lestcher ("Brothers and Sisters"), Julie Gonzalo ("Veronica Mars"), Loretta Devine ("Grey's Anatomy," "Boston Public"), Sam Jaeger (Catch and Release) and Thomas Cavanaugh ("Ed," "Scrubs") plus guest appearances by Katie Holmes, Taraji P. Henson, Sigourney Weaver, Katey Sagal and Seal.

Recommendations: Eli Stone is such a great show, and Johnny Lee Miller is perfect as Eli Stone. I would recommend if you're in the mood for something new and enjoyable.

Everybody Hates Chris (The Final Season)

Synopsis: Inspired by his childhood experiences, comedian Chris Rock narrates the hilarious, touching story of a teenager growing up as the eldest of three children in Brooklyn, New York, during the early 1980s. Uprooted to a new neighborhood and bused into a predominantly white middle school two-hours away by his strict, hard-working parents, Chris struggles to find his place while keeping his siblings in line at home and surmounting the challenges of junior high. This responsible, resilient adolescent brings a distinct, funny spin to his everyday trials and traumas, in the critically acclaimed, single-camera comedy "Everybody Hates Chris."

Cast: Tyler James Williams, Tichina Arnold, Terry Crews, Vincent Martella, Tequan Richmond, Imani Hakim

After the success of The Cleaner, A&E will premiere its new original series, THE BEAST, tonight, January 15, at 10pm.

Starring Patrick Swayze and Travis Fimmel, The Beast follows FBS veteran, Charles Barker (Swayze), who takes on a rookie partner, Ellis Dove (Fimmel). It is the typical old cop trains young cop type of show with an edge.

Before I get too much into the show, I have to first let you know that I usually am not a big fan of cop shows, and that has nothing to do with their quality, it's just not my thing, so keep that in mind when I share my opinion of The Beast.

The first episode throws you right into the action as we meet Charles Barker and Ellis Dove, two FBI agents in an undercover mission. We soon realize that Dove still has a lot to learn from his mentor.

However the strong start is soon overcome by some boring moments as we follow Dove go about his day. Between meeting a love interest and some crazy drug addict, I was starting to wonder where all of this was going. I am glad to say however that they got me back towards the end. Barker and Dove pull off some crazy undercover moves, but that's not the best part. Turns out an FBI Internal Affairs team thinks that Barker might have gone rogue and tries to enlist Dove to become a double agent.

I have to admit that the setup was done pretty well because as I was watching the episode, I kept thinking to myself that maybe Barker was dirty (I hadn't read the synopsis for the episode so didn't know about it). It's the perfect balance between is he good or is he bad, and I think some of the credit is due to Patrick Swayze's portrayal of Barker.

As for Travis Fimmel, he gave Dove that quality of the young cocky cop, who thinks he knows everything but soon finds out he doesn't. I didn't know of Travis Fimmel, but I have to say it's great casting.

As I mentioned previously, this is not usually my type of show but I actually want watch more episodes to see where this is going, so that's saying a lot.

So would I recommend the show? I think the show has a lot of potential and some great acting, so if you don't have anything else to watch tonight, January 15, at 10pm, you might want to give it a shot.

Don't forget that The Beast airs on Thursdays at 10pm on A&E.

Starring Patrick Swayze and Travis Fimmel, The Beast centers on an unorthodox but effective FBI veteran, Charles Barker (Swayze), who takes on a rookie partner, Ellis Dove (Fimmel), to train in his hard-edged and psychologically clever style of agenting.
A&E's previous series was The Cleaner, which I quite enjoyed, so I am curious to see if The Beast lives up to the same standards.
You can watch a short teaser of The Beast below. Does it sound like it's something you might enjoy?
