DOCTOR WHO Season 5 To Premiere in April 2010 on BBC America

Good news, BBC America has finally announced the premiere date for the fifth season of DOCTOR WHO. The U.S. will get its first look at the Eleventh Doctor portrayed by Matt Smith on Saturday, April 17, 2010.

The season 5 premiere also marks the introduction of Steven Moffat as as lead writer and executive producer, as well as the Doctor's new companion Amy Pond played by Karen Gillan.

Travelling both through time and space, the new series has the mysterious Doctor and Amy Pond together exploring sixteenth century Venice, France during the 1890s and the United Kingdom in the far future, now an entire nation floating in space. The first three episodes of the 13-episode series have been confirmed as The Eleventh Hour, written by Steven Moffat, The Beast Below, also by Moffat and Victory of the Daleks by Mark Gatiss.

Some of the guest stars this season include SAG Award winner Alex Kingston (ER, Flash Forward), Oscar nominee Sophie Okonedo (The Secret Life of Bees, Hotel Rwanda) and Tony Curran (24).

BBC America has released a brand new teaser for Season 5 of DOCTOR WHO, which stars Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor and his new companion, Amy Pond, played by Karen Gillan.

If you are a Doctor Who fan, the first think you will most likely notice is that it seems that the Doctor's old enemy, the Daleks will be back this season. I love them, but they are probably the scariest out of all the bad guys... and I can't wait to see them again. We also get a peak at some of the other creatures will we encounter this new season.

As for Matt Smith, so far I'm liking what I'm seeing, it looks like he's going to be another great Doctor. And Karen Gillian looks really sweet as Amy Pond. I can't wait. But for now, enjoy the new teaser below.

As we are eagerly waiting the return of DOCTOR WHO for an all new season, which will premiere in Q2 of 2010, I thought I would share a few photos of the Eleventh Doctor, Matt Smith.

This is one of the most anticipated premiere for me because not only are we getting new episodes of Doctor Who, but I'm really looking forward to taking a closer look at Matt Smith. And if you haven't yet, check out the first trailer for Season 5 of Doctor Who here.

Check out the brand new preview for Season 5 of DOCTOR WHO which now stars the eleventh Doctor portrayed by Matt Smith.

Even though I'm still mourning the fact that there won't be anymore episodes of Doctor Who with David Tennant, I think the preview for the new season of Doctor Who looks pretty great and I have very high hopes for Matt Smith. But I am even more excited to see what new showrunner Steven Moffat has in store for us. Without a doubt he has written some of the best Doctor Who episodes ("The Girl in the Fireplace," "Blink," "The Empty Child," "The Doctor Dances," "Silence in the Library," "Forest of the Dead," and more), and I'm really looking forward to finding out in which direction he will steer the new season.

In the preview we also get our first look at the Doctor's new companion Amy Pond, played by Karen Gillan, whom I have a feeling I'm going to like.

But don't take my word for it, check out the new preview for Doctor Who season 5 below. If you pay attention, around 19 seconds into it, could we be seeing the new revamped TARDIS? (I attached a screenshot below).

DOCTOR WHO: THE END OF TIME (Part 2) - Must Watch

Don't forget that David Tennant's time as the tenth Doctor comes to an end tonight at 8pm on BBC America in part two of the DOCTOR WHO special "The End of Time." It's definitely something you will not want to miss, especially since we also get our first glimpse at the 11th Doctor portrayed by Matt Smith.
It's also your chance to see more of the brilliant John Simm as the Master.

I personally feel so bittersweet about the whole thing. On the one hand, David Tennant was such a brilliant Doctor, but on the other hand it'll be great to see Matt Smith's new take on the part. The new season of Doctor Who is slated to premiere in Spring of 2010.

And if you can't wait to see more of David Tennant, you will be able to catch him on PBS' Great Performances in 2010 as he reprises the role of Hamlet in an adaptation of the Royal Shakespeare Company's (RSC) 2008 stage production.

But for now, enjoy the conclusion of Doctor Who: The End of Time, I think we're going to need lots of tissues...

Doctor Who: The End of Time, Part Two, premieres January 2, one week after Part One, on BBC AMERICA. DAVID TENNANT - THE DOCTOR
David Tennant is an accomplished theater actor who most recently starred onstage in Hamlet with the Royal Shakespeare Company. Before landing the role of The Doctor in Doctor Who, he played the title role in Russell T Davies' adaptation of Casanova alongside Peter O'Toole. He also played Briscoe in The Quatermass Experiment, a recreation of the sci-fi cult classic first broadcast live in 1953. Other stage work includes The Pillowman at the National Theatre and Royal Shakespeare Company productions of Romeo & Juliet and As You Like It. His movie roles include Stephen Fry's Bright Young Things and the role of Barty Crouch Jr. in Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire. Tennant is the new host of PBS' Masterpiece Contemporary and recently signed on to appear in the NBC pilot Rex Is Not Your Lawyer.

RUSSELL T DAVIES - LEAD WRITER AND EXECUTIVE PRODUCER
Russell started at BBC Children's, writing the fantasy thrillers Dark Season and Century Falls, before winning the BAFTA for Best Children's Drama in 1996 for Granada'sThe Ward. He then created the landmark series Queer As Folk for Channel 4, and the U.S. version ran on Showtime for five years. It's official, we have a premiere date for DOCTOR WHO's final two specials, Doctor Who: The End of Time.

Part One will premiere on Saturday, December 26, 2009 on BBC America, and the premiere date for Part Two should be announced very soon as well.

This will be the last Doctor Who episodes starring David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor. He will then be replaced by Matt Smith who will become the Eleventh Doctor in the new season slated to premiere in 2010.

Doctor Who: The End of Time will also bring back a favorite of mine: The Master. I personally can't wait to see John Simm back as The Master. And if the last episode featuring The Master is anything to go by, we should expect this one is going to be epic!

THE DOCTOR WHO SPECIALS ARE LANDING ON BBC AMERICA

New York, NY – October 30, 2009 –The BBC today announced the imminent arrival of the final Doctor Who episodes starring David Tennant as the Doctor. Television's longest running science fiction series, shot in HD, has just three episodes to go before a new Doctor arrives on screen next year.

The next special, Doctor Who: The Waters of Mars airs on BBC AMERICA, Saturday December 19, 9:00pm ET/PT. It stars Tennant and British stage and screen actress Lindsay Duncan (Rome, Langford) as Adelaide, his cleverest and most strong-minded companion.

All will be revealed as the Doctor and his companion Adelaide face terror on the Red Planet in one of the scariest adventures yet. Peter O'Brien (Casualty, Neighbours) guest stars as Ed, Adelaide's second-in-command at the base.

The remaining episodes, starring Tennant, will air over the holiday season as a two-part special. Airdates will be released in early December. Tennant shot a total of four specials before exiting the role - Planet of the Dead was the first one to air, last July, on BBC AMERICA.

The BBC will release The Waters of Mars and the two-part finale on DVD and Blu-ray, Tuesday, February 2, 2010. Doctor Who: Planet of the Dead is already available on DVD and Blu-ray. Releasing on February 2 are:

BBC UNVEILS NEW LOGO FOR NEW DOCTOR

A first look at the new Doctor Who logo, which will accompany Matt Smith's on-screen debut as The Doctor in spring 2010, has been unveiled and can be seen at www.bbcamerica.com/doctorwho. The logo is the eleventh to have been used on screen in the show's history.

Accompanying the logo at BBCAmerica.com is an animated insignia of the show's initials, which will be used as branding for the new series in conjunction with the logo.

About the new logo Steven Moffat, the new Lead Writer and Executive Producer said:
"A new logo. The eleventh logo for the eleventh Doctor - those grand old words, Doctor Who, suddenly looking newer than ever. And look at that, something really new - an insignia! DW in TARDIS form! Simple and beautiful, and most important of all, a completely irresistible doodle. I apologise to school notebooks everywhere, because in 2010 that's what they're going to be wearing."

The new series of Doctor Who will premiere in spring 2010. The final three episodes featuring David Tennant will be broadcast later this year, with the existing logo on-screen.

First Look at Matt Smith as the New DOCTOR WHO

Check out Matt Smith in costume as the 11th Doctor filming new episodes of DOCTOR WHO.

We have known for a while that David Tennant would not be returning, and also found out that Matt Smith had been chosen to replace him, but now we finally get to see him as the Doctor thanks to BBC (via Scifi Wire).

Next to him is Karen Gillian, who is playing the Doctor's new companion, Amy Pond.

In addition to Matt Smith taking over the role, there were also some additional changes made behind-the-scenes of the show. Steven Moffat is now the new lead writer and executive producer, who will be responsible for the "overall creative direction of the show, as well as plot and character arcs." As a fan of his shows and all his Doctor Who episodes, I cannot wait to see what he has in store for us this new season.

The new Doctor Who series will premiere in Spring 2010 in the UK.

It's finally here! The new trailer for DOCTOR WHO's new special "Planet of the Dead" has been released and will air on BBC One on April 11, 2009. Unfortunately, there is no word on whether or not Sci-Fi will air these specials anytime soon or at all.

But that doesn't prevent us from enjoying this first trailer. As you can notice, this time the Doctor's companion is Michelle Ryan ("Bionic Woman"). I cannot wait to see this, it's going to be nice to have David Tennant back on TV.

David Tennant is DOCTOR WHO No More

In one of the saddest TV news, David Tennant officially announced that he was leaving DOCTOR WHO.

David Tennant made the announcement after winning the outstanding drama performance prize at the National Television Awards:

"When Doctor Who returns in 2010 it won't be with me," he said.

"Now don't make me cry," he added. "I love this part, and I love this show so much that if I don't take a deep breath and move on now I never will, and you'll be wheeling me out of the Tardis in my bath chair."

Well, I might just cry. I thought David Tennant was an amazing Doctor. But then again, I was also really sad when Christopher Eccleston left and ended up loving David Tennant even more. I just hope the next Doctor will be able to fill the big shoes left by Tennant.

As for who I would like to see as the new Doctor, well a while back there were some rumors that Robert Carlyle might be the next Doctor, and I still wouldn't mind that.

Other than him, there has been talk of James Nesbitt (who was brilliant in Jekyll), and funny enough, John Simm (who played The Master in Doctor Who) was mentioned as well. Even though that might be hard to explain, I would love John Simm as the new Doctor, he would do a great job.

And just for the sake of it, I think Jason Isaacs would be a great Doctor, but then again he is already in the Brotherhood and I have doubts that they would even be able to get him.

Episode Synopsis:
The Doctor and Donna's meet Agatha Christie at a manor owned by Lady Eddison. When Agatha Christie goes missing and a body turns up in the library the adventure turns into a pulp sci-fiction murder mystery, with a murder, a jewel thief, and a wasp alien. Can they solve the mystery?

Last week's episode of DOCTOR WHO was really good. It was really emotional and smart, just like we love them. Tonight the Doctor and Donna are heading towards a new adventure on the Planet of Ood, whom we have met in a previous season (can't remember which one) of Doctor Who.

I just adore the show and it's just so much fun to watch. And if the season continues that way, it's going to be a brilliant season!
