THE RICHES CANCELLED 2008

October 8, 2008

Eddie Izzard as Wayne Malloy

It is official. FX has cancelled THE RICHES.

After being in TV purgatory since last April’s Second Season finale, the news of the cancellation of THE RICHES is not surprising but still a great disappointment for the fans.

The news was announced on Todd Stashwick ’s MySpace Page which should really piss off FX.

What do you think of FX cancelling THE RICHES?

Early Review: THE RICHES “The Lying King” (S02E07)

April 29, 2008

Eddie Izzard as Wayne Malloy

Don’t forget to watch the season two finale of THE RICHES tonight, April 29, at 10pm on FX.

Even though this episode wasn’t originally supposed to be the season finale, I think it fits perfectly. The whole family’s world is crashing down and everybody will end up in a very different place than where they first started.

After finding out Pete’s dead, Dahlia struggles between her old way of life and being a better person. She tries to reconnect with her parole officer, but things don’t really turn out the way she or even I expected.

Wayne is trying to keep the family together, but just doesn’t seem to quite get it. Things get more and more out of control and the more he tries to make it better, the worse it gets.

Di Di continues to explore suburban life while hanging out with her new security guard boyfriend.

As for Cal, he might have put things in motion that could destroy his family.

This episode of The Riches will definitely leave you wanting for more, and I cannot believe we are going to have to wait so long to see what happens next to the Malloy family.

Review: THE RICHES “Trust Never Sleeps” (S02E05)

The Riches - Eddie Izzard as Wayne Malloy and Minnie Driver as Dahlia Malloy

Tonight THE RICHES returns with a whole new episode, “Trust Never Sleeps” at 10pm on FX.

Since I have already seen the episode, I wanted to make sure to let you know how good it is. So far I have really been impressed by Season 2. The characters have evolved in this new world they invaded and unfortunately it’s not the American Dream they were hoping for.

This season Dahlia and Wayne have sort of each gone their own ways and try to deal with their new lives the best way they know how.

In tonight’s episode, we get a little more into the after effects of Dahlia’s decision to report to her parole officer. Obviously, this probably wasn’t the smartest decision since now she has to juggle two jobs and places to live. But I think it fits perfectly with Dahlia trying to become a better person.

Review: THE RICHES - Season 2

March 18, 2008

The Riches

THE RICHES is back tonight with a whole new season full of surprises. And needless to say, it’s a Must-Watch.

I was able to take an early look at the first four episodes and let me tell you, as much as season 1 was great, season 2 is shaping up to be as good if not better.

During every episode, you will be on the edge of your seat wondering “will they or won’t they be found out?”

Wayne Malloy (Eddie Izzard) gets more and more involved in his “job” and believes that this is the way to get his family back together and guarantee their future. Wayne is such a well written and well portrayed character, it’s hard not to be rooting for him. I think the reason he is so appealing to the audience is because he is really smart and can get out of situations we wish we could get out of with so much class. In season 2, we get to see more of his ingenious ways to get in and out of trouble. Needless to say Eddie Izzard is brilliant.

Interview: EDDIE IZZARD and MINNIE DRIVER from THE RICHES

March 16, 2008

The Riches - Minnie Driver and Eddie Izzard

MINNIE DRIVER and EDDIE IZZARD both star in FX’s original TV show, THE RICHES, as Dahlia and Wayne Malloy. In the show, they try to steal the American dream by passing themselves and their children off as The Riches, a couple who tragically died in a car accident before getting to their new destination.

We recently participated in a conference call with the two stars of The Riches, Minnie Driver and Eddie Izzard, to talk about what can be expected from season 2 of The Riches, which premieres March 18 at 10pm.

Find out what they had to say below.

What did doing just seven episodes mean to the season? What did it mean to the storytelling?

Eddie Izzard: Well, obviously, it’s seven episodes because of the strike. I think the writers were obviously aware of this beforehand, and so we built a sort of cliffhanger halfway through the season. So it really didn’t hurt us in any way. I think they’re seven very strong episodes. The first season, if you watched it all the way through the tone does move around somewhat. The second season, we just sort of knew where we were going, we locked down, we got on the railway lines, and we just went full steam ahead. So I think it makes it like a tighter punch, and we’re coming out now. It’s a great time to come out, because there’s a lot of stuff normally out on television, not all of it is back on television. So we’re very happy to come out, do seven, and give it a big smack in the face.

Minnie Driver: Yes, I agree with that. It’s true. Everybody got hammered by the strike. And whilst we all support the writers, I would have loved to have done a full season. I don’t think the show suffered. I think it’s going to leave the audience wanting more, which is a really good way to end a season at all, and the addition of Jared Harris to our cast I think has added a kind of weight and a danger that’s really fantastic.
