THE SHIELD “Coefficient of Drag” (S7E01) Early Review
September 1, 2008
THE SHIELD is back with its final season. I had the opportunity of screening the first episode of the season “Coefficient of Drag” and I wanted to share my thoughts on it.
The season begins right where it left off, without missing a beat. In this episode, Vic is dealing with a lot of things at the same time. I have come to know this character as a master of multi-tasking but still it was kind of impressive to see him handling the following pretty much at the same time:
- Confronting Shane about Kidnapping his family
- Trying to use the stolen blackmail material so that he can avoid retirement
- Trying to find the guy who tried to kill his family
- Trying to keep his ex-wife in the dark about the whole situation
- Oh yeah, also trying to stay under Claudette’s good side too.
All of that, in one day. I am exhausted just thinking about it. And actually that is the problem I had with this first episode of The Shield.
There is just too much going on at the same time. There are simply too many plotlines happening at the same time and it feels messy. Plus it makes each story line kind of bleed into the other unintentionally. A few times during the episode, I thought to myself “Who is that guy again?” or “Wait, so what happened to the other guy”? I actually hate it when that happens to me.
I understand that this may have been intentional. Maybe a not-so-subtle way of having us feel what Vic must be feeling. But come on, there is such a thing as two or three clear and easy to follow plot lines.
Overall it was a decent episode but still was a little difficult to follow. I will watch the rest of the season and hopefully things will gets better. What did you think of the first episode of Season 7 of The Shield “Coefficient of Drag”?

Kyle Gallner on THE SHIELD
August 12, 2007

Veronica Mars fans rejoice because our boy Beaver Kyle Gallner just got a recurring role on THE SHIELD. He will play “a young man who’s eerily detached after fatally shooting an intruder.”
Another disturbed character, but he plays them so well. I think I never got over him leaving Veronica Mars, just as he was starting to grow on me. That’s probably why I take any opportunities to watch his work.
Tune in to The Shield when it comes back for its Seventh and final season in 2008.

On Tonight: JOHN FROM CINCINNATI, The Loop and more…
June 10, 2007

THE SOPRANOS “Made In America” - 9pm HBO
The sixth and final season ends tonight. To be honest, I haven’t been following the last two seasons of The Sopranos, but I hear it’s really good. Hopefully, the series finale will be good enough to illustrate what the show has been about all these years.

THE LOOP “Windows” & “The Phantom” - 8:30pm & 9:30pm FOX
So I never watched this show and I don’t even know what it’s about. I know it’s a comedy, but that’s about it. If I hear good things about tonight’s episode, I might try to watch at least one episode.

JOHN FROM CINCINNATI “His Visit: Day One” - 10pm HBO
I cannot believe that after all my talk about John From Cincinnati I will not be able to watch the first episode until I get back home in a couple of days. I really hope that John From Cincinnati is as good as I think it is, otherwise I am going to have some people to answer to…
Plot: Drama about the Yost family set in the surfing community of Imperial Beach, California. Two people enter their lives: John who mysteriously shows up looking for surfing lessons and a man looking for revenge.
Note: The first episode lasts 70 minutes instead of the usual 60 minutes.

THE SHIELD “Spanish Practices” - 10pm FX
Tonight is the sixth season finale for The Shield. I have watched a few episodes here and there but never really got into it. But I have to say that The Shield has amazing acting, an original filmmaking style and involving storylines, which I think is one of the reason for its success.

On Tonight - CRISS ANGEL: MINDFREAK and more…
June 5, 2007

ON THE LOT - 8pm FOX
The new version of the show starts tonight. The remaining 15 wannabe directors fight off with a new challenge tonight. You know I’ll be watching…

AMERICA’S GOT TALENT - 9pm NBC
I never watched the show and am not sure that I will start this year. But for you fans of the show, set your DVRs for tonight.

HOUSE OF PAYNE - 9pm TBS
Sitcom brought to us by Tyler Perry (you might know him better as Grandma Madea) about a working-class family forced to live together under one roof. I haven’t decided yet whether I was going to tune in, but most likely I will not. If you guys tune in, let me know what you thought.

CRISS ANGEL: MINDFREAK - 10pm A&E
If you haven’t seen this show yet, tune in tonight and get ready to be taken on a crazy ride. Criss Angel makes magic look cool. He does some of the most amazing tricks I have ever seen. I don’t usually like to watch magic shows, but Criss Angel: Mindfreak is so much more. Trust me, it’s worth watching.
And for the little trivia, Criss Angel recently confirmed he is dating none other than Cameron Diaz.

THE SHIELD - 10pm FX
Tune in to tonight The Shield’s Season Finale with an extended episode of 90 minutes. Unfortunately, I do not follow the show and cannot comment on it, but I hear it’s really good.
