In anticipation of Hallmark's new orignial movie, LIES BETWEEN FRIENDS, which premieres in July 2010, I thought I would share a really nice profile of Gabrielle Anwar, who stars in the movie. So enjoy and you can also find a larger version of her photo all the way down.

Usually, Gabrielle Anwar admits, she just breezes through her birthday without a second thought. But that wasn't happening this time as she approached a milestone known euphemistically as The Big 4-0 on Feb. 4.

"I'm not sure if it was a psychological reaction I was having or what," Anwar says, "but for the first time in my life I thought maybe it was time I hang up my bikini. I mean, there's something to be said for acknowledging one's age. It has a calming effect. And especially because of what I do for a living, I don't want to be one of those women who doesn't enjoy the aging process. I want to relish what I'm becoming and not be disgraced by it."

Well, forget about any disgrace. That won't be happening to this spectacularly beautiful 40-year-old who still looks 25. No need for Botox or knives to achieve the "natural" look, thanks very much.

Not only does Anwar find herself riding a career wave as she cracks an age that too often spells death for actresses in Hollywood; she's also in a great place personally, with her priorities in impeccable order.

"I'm a mother first, then a bunch of other things, and then an actress," Anwar, a mother of three, declares. "It's important for me to stay real."

Keeping it real certainly hasn't prevented Anwar from hitting a professional stride at 40 that would be the envy of actresses 10 years her junior. She's a fixture on a hit series – the third-year cable drama "Burn Notice" on which she co-stars with Jeffrey Donovan, Bruce Campbell and Sharon Gless. And she landed a plum star turn in the Hallmark Channel in HD Original Movie "Lies Between Friends" that premieres Saturday, April 10 (9p.m. ET/PT, 8C).

In the "Big Chill"-like "Lies Between Friends," Anwar portrays an art authenticator named Joss Jenner who joins six college girlfriends at a bed and breakfast inn for a bridal shower weekend. All well and good. But after being confronted by her freshman year roommate Cait (Thea Gill) about an alleged cheating incident with her college boyfriend, Cait suddenly is found dead, having apparently been pushed from a roof.

"I loved the dynamic of the film, about women gathered for a reunion," Anwar stresses. "That part of the shoot was a great deal of fun."

And what part wasn't fun?

"I'll tell you what: it was BLOODY COLD!" she replies. "We were filming on Vancouver island, in Victoria, Canada. I'm living these days in Miami while we're shooting ‘Burn Notice,' and so I'm a total lightweight when it comes to cold. The shoot was only 15 days, but it felt like my mouth was going to freeze shut.

"Actually, on second thought, I wish it had frozen shut. Because the catering was so exquisite I gained a huge amount of weight. I gained more, I think, than I had in the entire nine months of my last pregnancy. I've had to double-up on my yoga to get the weight off."

Successfully working in frigid temperatures wasn't Anwar's only impressive feat during the "Lies Between Friends" production. She also was able to work alongside former "One Tree Hill" star Craig Sheffer, who portrays an investigating sheriff in the film.

Why is this a big deal? Because Anwar and Sheffer were longtime lovers, maintaining a relationship for years and together creating Anwar's 16-year-old daughter, Willow. The two have actually worked together in close to a dozen films, many of those since they split up. (Anwar has since married and divorced actor John Verea.)

So much for the concept of hating one's ex.

"Craig and I work together as often as possible," Anwar offers. "It's like taking the family on vacation and having someone else pay for it. The truth is, there's simply no place for animosity when you have a child together. It's not an option.

"I love having Craig there when I'm working. I enjoy his company and the professional aspect of it as well. My two youngest kids were there with me on the shoot, and he's their godfather. During quite a few nights, I was able to just dump them in his hotel room…and go eat more food."

Somehow, Anwar wears it exceedingly well. Born in Laleham, Middlesex, England to an Indian-born British film producer-editor and an English actress mother, she clearly comes by her exotic good looks naturally.

Anwar was chosen as one of People magazine's 50 most beautiful people in the world in 1993, the year after she made a breakthrough career splash in the feature "Scent of a Woman" for her singularly memorable tango with Al Pacino's blind character.

But rather than capitalize on the momentum that film supplied, Anwar almost immediately became pregnant with Willow. "My career wasn't really a priority at the time," she recalls. "I was extremely grateful to be pregnant. My agents weren't quite so happy. Timing-wise, it couldn't have come at a worse moment, yet it was personally my saving grace."

Her career has been a self-described "bumpy road" ever since, marked by an assortment of made-for-TV movies and small-scale theatricals. But the "Burn Notice" gig has sent her acting life back onto the fast track, earning Anwar rave critical notices and genuine satisfaction.

"I've fortunately been given a terrific gift in playing a woman who is almost as outspoken as I am," she says. "I've always been labeled as a rebel, and now I get to play one."

Indeed, Anwar is quick to acknowledge that her well-earned reputation for being candid and outspoken has perhaps held her career back some. "I always manage to stick my foot in my mouth," she believes. "I've never been much good at self-censoring, to my detriment. I've struggled so hard to figure out who the hell I am, and I refuse to tame my words to keep from offending someone."

This is perhaps one reason why Anwar is determined to embrace being 40 rather than hide from it. Simply copping to being that chronological age and discussing its ramifications has to be seen as an atypical act of courage in itself for someone working in age-obsessed Hollywood.

"I've earned my years, so I confidently state my age with tremendous pride," she maintains. "That's very difficult to do in this country in the industry I've chosen. But I am determined to really look at my gray hairs and my fine lines and appreciate what they've done for me."

By the same token, Anwar understands the Catch-22 of growing older as a professional actress.

"The scrutiny becomes quite debilitating," she notes. "If you decide to go au natural, you're ridiculed for not looking like you did 20 years ago. If you have surgery, then you're called out for not accepting the natural aging process with grace. I have to say, to each their own. I'm never one to want to discuss my personal life, what my sexual orientation might be, why my marriage failed or what I may have injected into my body.

"It's just such an odd phenomenon. Every breath that celebrities take is so scrutinized. But I mean, I didn't win the Nobel Peace Prize here, people! I'm just an actress. The weight that's cast on what we do, and the pedestal we're placed on, is so undeserving. So I think I'll just stop talking now if that's all right."

Check out some new photos of Brian Austin Green in Hallmark's new original movie, THE WILD GIRL, which premieres on April 24 (9 p.m. ET/PT, 8 p.m. CT). The movie also stars Graham Greene, Kathleen Munroe, Matthew Edison, and Andrew Gillies. It is based on the Novel by Jim Fergus.

I'm a sucker for these Hallmark movies and it's going to be so much fun to see Brian Austin Green in one of them. Can't wait!

The Wild Girl Synopsis: In Chicago in 1932, young photographer Ned Giles is struggling to get published in the Chicago Tribune. One day, Ned sees a flyer advertising the "Great Apache Expedition," a mission that will combine the wealthy men of America with a Mexican army to rescue Gerald Huerta, the kidnapped son of a rich Mexican landowner and return him to his father. Partnering with affected prep Tolley Phillips (Matthew Edison, "Murder on Her Mind"), who wants to prove to his father he is more than just a spoiled rich boy, Ned travels to Mexico, camera in hand. Joining them are Margaret Hawkins (Kathleen Munroe, "Accidental Friendship"), a beautiful anthropology student with a big heart, and Mr. Browning (Andrew Gillies, "Why I Wore Lipstick to My Mastectomy"), a refined English gentleman who serves as Tolley's valet.
The team enlists native Apache scouts Joseph (Greene) and his grandson Albert (Gregory Odjig, "Elijah"), to guide them to the kidnapped boy, but when Albert makes it clear he has a deep resentment against white people, it seems impossible the group will ever be able to work together.
They run into more trouble when Ned encounters a wild Apache girl, Chideh (Lola Tash), who belongs to the same dangerous tribe of Indians that kidnapped the boy they are searching for. They decide to take Chideh with them on the expedition and use her as a bargaining chip to get the boy back, but aren't prepared for the risks that lay ahead. When the Apache tribe ambushes the group and takes them hostage, the troop must work together to escape, or face the terrifying price of being would-be heroes.

Uncorked is a typical Hallmark movie and if you usually enjoy them, then you're definitely going to love Uncorked. Plus fans of Julie Benz will most likely enjoy seeing her in a sweeter movie for a change.

Uncorked Synopsis: Johnetta 'Johnny' Prentice (Benz), the CFO for a major corporation, has allowed her work to take over her life, quite similar to her business-obsessed boyfriend Christopher. Johnny's company sends her to a conference in California wine country, where it will be up to her to seal the deal with an important investor. But all her plans are suddenly up in the air, especially when she meets world-famous chef Andrew Browning (Elrod) and his adorable son and parents, Sophia (Williams) and Paul (Gould), owners of the California Oak Winery. With an unexpectedly free schedule, Johnny finally has the time to relax and do something for herself, but she would much rather get right back to the office, even if it means leaving behind the things and people she has come to love.

JULIE BENZ: CELEBRATING HER DAYS OF WINE AND BOAS

Julie Benz likes to work. A lot. This is a good thing indeed considering that Benz has been working pretty much nonstop since landing her first acting job some 20 years ago in a forgettable horror flick called "Two Evil Eyes" opposite a fellow named Harvey Keitel.

"I don't like to be unemployed," Benz admits. "I love being on a set more than just about anyplace else, certainly more than sitting on my couch at home. I take every opportunity that comes along, and I've been very lucky, because the opportunities haven't stopped."

So you have to believe that Benz may have related a bit to the character she portrays in the new Hallmark Channel in HD Original Movie, "Uncorked," which premieres on the channel Saturday, March 6 (9p.m. ET/PT, 8C). She's Johnetta "Johnny" Prentice, a workaholic CFO for a major corporation whose life is turned upside-down when she's sent to a conference in California wine country to seal a deal, but winds up falling in love along the way in a flick that costars JoBeth Williams, Elliott Gould and Scott Elrod of "Men in Trees" fame.

"Johnny is a woman who relies on work to get things in her life done," Benz stresses. "I understand that sort of mindset really well, though I think Johnny's a lot more cut off emotionally than I am. I like to think I've got a lot of different sides to me that I can bring out in my performing."

And how.

Consider that at the same time Benz is starring in the Hallmark Channel pic, she's been featured in a recurring role on "Desperate Housewives" as Debbie, "a stripper with a brain," as she describes it, a lady who shucks stereotypes along with her clothes after arriving on Wisteria Lane.

For the 37-year-old Benz, acting simply doesn't get any better – or more wide-ranging – than this.

"It's pretty great, isn't it?" she exults. "But I mean, that's Hollywood for ya. It's wonderful to be able to depict a stripper and center a Hallmark Channel movie at the same time. It's just all about finding ways to grow as a performer, to raise myself to the art, to challenge myself and make it interesting. The only thing I really know how to do is work – so here I am."

That intensive work ethic was surely instilled in Benz early on. Born in Pittsburgh to a surgeon father and a mother who was an expert figure skater, she followed her older brother and sister into competitive ice dancing in the late 1980s, but found her budding career cut short while still in her mid-teens by a serious stress fracture.

With skating out of the picture, Benz took up acting in 1989 and quickly moved from local theater to roles in film and TV, including a part as a regular on the early 1990s comedy, "Hi Honey, I'm Home." Guest spots on dozens of TV series followed – everything from "Married…with Children" to "Diagnosis Murder" – followed, along with a small but significant cameo as a receptionist in the Oscar®-winning 1997 feature "As Good as it Gets."

Benz's big break almost came her way in '96 when she auditioned for the lead role in "Buffy, the Vampire Slayer," losing out to Sarah Michelle Gellar. But the show nonetheless represented a smaller break, anyway, when she was offered the recurring part of a vampire named Darla, which would take her through several seasons of both "Buffy" and its spinoff series, "Angel."

Blood would also figure prominently in the highest-profile job for Benz to date: As the troubled divorcee girlfriend-turned-wife of serial killer Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) on the Emmy®-nominated drama "Dexter." She was a regular on the show for all of its four seasons, until being written out in December in a shocking season-concluding murder.

The grisly killing set the Internet afire with fans of the series mourning the death of her character, Rita. And truth be told, Benz herself isn't completely over it yet, either.

"They found my body in a bathtub drained of all of its blood and my baby sitting in the puddle on the tile," Benz painfully recalls. "I hadn't found out about it until the night before I received the script. I was pretty devastated because I loved playing Rita, loved the family I had on the show.

"I couldn't watch it when it was on. It was just too painful. I mean, I totally understand why they had to do it. They needed to do something to open up the storyline. And at the end of the day, I'm an actor."

Fortunately, there was plenty of work waiting for Benz following the brutal slaying. She's having a "wonderful" time on "Housewives" working closely with star Teri Hatcher. She has also been shooting an indie feature drama called "Answers to Nothing," alongside Dane Cook.

But it was "Uncorked" (her second Hallmark Channel Original, the first being 2004's "The Long Shot") that Benz found the most refreshing departure of her recent acting life. In a career dominated by action fare like "Dexter" and 2008's "Rambo," she welcomed centering a project that was "so simple and romantic."

She adds, "The film shoot was so much fun. Part of the time was in Solvang (California) at a winery in this little tiny town. The whole cast and crew took over this one little motel. It was like being back in college…but with a little more responsibility. And our director, David Cass Sr., was just wonderful, a guy with an amazing work ethic who got us done every day at a decent hour."

Benz also reports having loved working beside Williams and Gould, who portray winery oweners in "Uncorked." It was her third project with Williams, a woman "whom I've admired for many years." She also recalls one specific moment of bonding with Gould on the set.

"I was reading that book ‘The Tipping Point' that talked about how the whole Six Degrees of Separation thing really applies more to Elliott Gould than to Kevin Bacon," she remembers. "I was so excited to see Elliott's name in the book that I ran over to his trailer and pounded on the door and was like, ‘Elliott! Elliott! Look! You're mentioned in this book!'"

Replied Gould: "Yes, I know."

"So I guess he already knew," Benz adds, laughing, "but hey, it was exciting for me."

"Uncorked" premieres Saturday, March 6 (9p.m. ET/PT, 8C)

Take a first look at Gabrielle Anwar and Craig Sheffer in Hallmark's new original movie, LIES BETWEEN FRIENDS, which premieres in July 2010 (it was originally scheduled to premiere on Saturday, April 10). The movie also stars Thea Gill.

Fans of Burn Notice might not recognize the lovely Gabrielle Anwar, who sports an all new haircut, but might want to tune in and watch her as she stars in a new Hallmark movie, Lies Between Friends, with Craig Sheffer. It sounds like it's going to be a mystery, and I'm kind of looking forward to watching it.

Lies Between Friends Synopsis: Art authenticator Joss Jenner (Anwar) joins six college girlfriends at a bed and breakfast for a bridal shower weekend. Many of them have grown apart over the years since they graduated, especially Joss and her freshman year roommate, Cait Randall (Thea Gill, "Queer as Folk"), a beautiful "B" movie actress. As the guests settle in for a weekend of good food, wine, and party games, Cait begs Joss to sit down and have a discussion about an unresolved dispute from their past, where she promises to "reveal everything." Joss, who believes her college boyfriend, Eric, cheated on her with Cait, reluctantly agrees to hear her out. The wounds of betrayal still remain, even though Eric died many years ago in a motorcycle accident.
Before Cait can explain, though, Joss finds her dead, apparently pushed off the roof. What at first looks to be an accident is instead presumed to be a murder, and soon everyone is
a suspect. Sheriff Zack Watts (Sheffer) arrives to investigate, and Joss is eager to help solve the crime and uncover the secret that Cait never got a chance to tell her. She becomes fixated on the case, and soon discovers that everyone involved has a past secret.

Watch a preview and check out photos of Hallmark's new original movie, ELEVATOR GIRL which premieres Saturday, February 13 (9p.m. ET/PT 8C).

I found Elevator Girl to be really sweet and definitely enjoyable especially if you're a fan of Hallmark movies. Plus it's a great movie to watch right in time for Valentine's Day.

Elevator Girl Synopsis: Workaholic attorney Jonathan MacIntyre (Merriman) is too busy at the firm to make time for himself or any personal life. But when he gets trapped in a stalled elevator with carefree, eccentric Liberty Taylor (Chabert), they discover that opposites really do attract. The sparks are there, but after Jonathan finds out that Liberty is on a career path consisting of only odd jobs and unfinished degrees, he grows conflicted over whether to follow his heart or settle down with a professional woman who is more like himself. It takes his motherly secretary, Rosemary (Patty McCormick, "Frost/Nixon") to intervene as matchmaker to set the two up for a second chance.
After a successful first date, Jonathan and Libby start to fall for each other, but the two can't help but seem mismatched as Libby's disorganized creativity clashes with Jonathan's rigid professionalism. Their less-than-supportive friends, Tessa (Hedy Burress, "He's Just Not That Into You") and Nick (Jonathan Bennett, "Mean Girls") are all-too-eager to notice this, and try to convince the two that their relationship won't last. Eventually, Libby and Jonathan butt heads over their different lifestyles, and ultimately must decide whether their love can rise above their differences.

Hallmark's HEALING HANDS First Look with Eddie Cibrian and Lisa Sheridan

Take a first look at Eddie Cibrian and Lisa Sheridan, who star in Hallmark's upcoming HD original movie, HEALING HANDS, which premieres on March 20 (9p.m. ET/PT ,8C).

If you remember, Eddie Cibrian and Lisa Sheridan were costars in the short-lived series, Invasion, and are now reuniting in Healing Hands. The movie also stars Patrick Duffy.

Healing Hands Synopsis: Buddy Hoyt (Cibrian) lives a simple life from the garage apartment of his adoptive parents, Aunt Beth (Meagan Fay, "Mad Money") and Uncle Norman (Duffy). Buddy works thanklessly as a school janitor and is busy planning the next move for himself and his fiancée, Alice (Sheridan), when suddenly, one wrong step sends him into a coma. When he finally comes to, his life changes in a way he can hardly believe. Buddy realizes he has the ability to heal others just by touching them, although he must drain his own energy to revitalize theirs. Almost overnight, the humble janitor becomes the talk of the town, and he finally feels appreciated as more people come to him for help. However, Buddy's gift begins to take its toll, on both his health and his relationship with Alice, and he realizes that helping others can't mean overlooking his own well-being. With the life he has waited for now on the line, Buddy must decide to what extent he is able to put others' futures ahead of his own.

In anticipation of Hallmark's new orignial movie, HEALING HANDS, which premieres Saturday, March 20 (9p.m. ET/PT, 8C), I thought I would share a really nice profile of Eddie Cibrian, who stars in the movie. So enjoy and you can also find a larger version of his photo all the way down.

You've got to believe that Eddie Cibrian has packed an awful lot of living into his 36 years on the planet. He's a poker player, a golfer, a surfer, a water skier, a tennis player and a basketball player. And when he's not playing, he's managed to slip in an acting career during which he has performed as a TV series regular on eight different shows (with his newest role on a winning little drama called "CSI: Miami").

Oh yeah, and he's also a dad to sons Mason and Jake, ages six and two.

Yet while Cibrian can still take off his shirt and boast an impressive set of pecs, it seems clear that he would like to move past the whole hunk thing that, in 2006, landed him on People magazine's list of the 100 Most Beautiful People Alive. For one thing, there's his new made-for-TV movie that finds Cibrian portraying not a macho firefighter (as he did for five seasons on NBC's "Third Watch") or a slick card shark (as he was in the 2005 ESPN series "Tilt") but…a janitor.

Really.

Of course, Buddy Hoyt, Cibrian's alter ego in the Hallmark Channel HD Original Movie "Healing Hands" (Saturday, March 20 at (9p.m. ET/PT, 8C) is no ordinary custodian. Buddy is not only adept with a broom and dustpan; he can also heal through the simple miracle of his touch in a flick that co-stars Lisa Sheridan ("Invasion"), Meagan Fay ("Malcolm in the Middle") and the legendary Patrick Duffy ("Dallas").

"The script came to me and I thought it was just a great story," says Cibrian of "Healing Hands." "I play a guy from a small town who was raised by foster parents, a janitor at a local high school. He's a goodhearted guy with a loving girlfriend who finds out he has this unique gift to heal people.

"Here is a guy who has been kind of walking through life barely noticed by people. And now he's saddled with this great ability, responsibility, and sudden visibility. The sad part is, every time he helps somebody, it takes a little piece of him away and drains his energy. It forces him to make a fateful decision about what he really wants in his life."

It turns out that the film has a few uncomfortable corollaries to Cibrian's real life, as last summer the actor suddenly found himself thrust into the tabloid media glare due to personal issues and a separation from his wife of eight years, Brandi Glanville (who also is the mother of his two sons).

But Cibrian has largely weathered the disquieting intrusion with steadiness and class, and was fortunate to have a solid job to throw himself into in July when he was hired as a regular for the eighth season of "CSI: Miami." He plays Jesse Cardoza, an officer from the Hollywood Division who joins the squad in Miami.

Lest this seem like a small thing, "CSI: Miami" was recently deemed the world's most popular television show, based on a ratings study of 20 countries by the company Informa Telecoms and Media.

Cibrian had been cast as a lead in a CBS drama series pilot entitled "Washington Field," which wound up not making the network's fall schedule. But CBS brass wondered if he might be interested in portraying this new character "Miami" was considering adding.

He didn't need to be asked twice.

"Oh man, it's huge!" Cibrian exults. "To be on this series that's mega-popular the world over, it really doesn't get much better than that, does it? I didn't even have to read for it. We just kind of worked out a deal over a weekend and by Monday I was signed. It's so cool when something that great just kind of gets tossed in your lap."

Indeed it is. It's even better for the fact that the "Miami" cast hasn't engaged in any tactics like hazing the new kid.

"They've made me feel at home from the first moment," Cibrian insists on the show that shoots not in Miami but Manhattan Beach, CA. "It's amazing to arrive in a ready-made situation where everyone has his role down like clockwork."

It wasn't nearly so mature on the set of "Healing Hands" during its 25-day shoot this year in Simi Valley, CA. Oh, it was all in good fun and everything, but the cast and crew had a special present for Cibrian when he celebrated his 36th birthday on the set.

"I come to work that morning and I see a bunch of people surrounding my trailer and hanging around, which is strange in itself," Cibrian recalls. "I go in and I see this big blowup doll of our director, Bradford May, and there's a sign plastered to it that reads, 'Oh please, Mr. Hoyt, please work your miracle on me. And of course the doll had had a picture of Brad's face placed over it. It was such a hoot, and really a pretty good indication of the kind of spirit we had on this shoot."

Cibrian surely has come a long way since the Burbank, CA-born Cuban-American landed in 1994 as daytime's latest soap hunk in "The Young and the Restless." Within two years, he already had begun his graduation to prime time in the syndicated "Baywatch Nights," following that up with regular stints on the likes of "Sunset Beach," "Tilt" and "Third Watch" as well as recurring roles on "Ugly Betty" and "The Starter Wife."

When he's not working, Cibrian can be found with his boys, playing sports or giving his time to charities that revolve around cancer research.

"Both my mom and dad had cancer," Cibrian says. "Thank God they're both still around. You never know. That thing can rear its ugly head at any time. So I like to dedicate myself to helping build awareness and making sure we put as much attention as possible on research to get rid of cancer once and for all."

Cibrian admits to having no great passionate focus for what he'd like to accomplish in acting from this point forward "aside from continuing to be an artist and dabble in a little bit of everything. I do know that a musical is probably out of the question, because I can't sing a lick.

"My goals change as I go along and get older. But I have to say I really love television and don't see that changing. I love the idea of playing and evolving a character over time in a series like 'CSI: Miami.' And let's face it, I'm lucky to have gotten everything I have so far in this business. Talent isn't enough. Looks aren't enough. You need luck too. And thank God I've had it – and still do."

In anticipation of Hallmark's new orignial movie, ELEVATOR GIRL, which premieres Saturday, February 13 (9p.m. ET/PT, 8C), I thought I would share a really nice profile of Ryan Merriman, who stars in the movie. So enjoy and you can also find a larger version of his photo all the way down.

Ryan Merriman is a throwback to a bygone era, the kind of stand-up guy who – in a world of "Me first!" – isn't supposed to still exist. But exist he does, remaining loyal to his high school sweetheart (now his wife of five years), speaking to his mother every day on the telephone, giving much of his time to charities, practicing unfailing politeness and generally acting like few 26-year-old guys who hit the jackpot in Hollywood at a tender age.

This is, in short, the kind of Midwestern values guy we root for, big time. But when you say this to Merriman, he shrugs in the kind of "Aw shucks" way that you might expect of a kid born in Choctaw, Oklahoma, who doesn't think what he's doing now is much of a big deal at all. Were he Jewish, he would be referred to as a "mensch."

But Merriman will have none of this talk, of course. Which is hardly a surprise at all.

"The truth is that I'm the lucky one," Merriman maintains. "I feel like with all the good stuff that's already happened to me, God's got his hand on my shoulder. It seems like He's always done the right thing for me when I needed it. I mean, shoot, look at all the success I've had, and I'm just in my 20s. That isn't because I'm so cool. I really have been tremendously fortunate."

Of course, one can make the argument that we make our own luck. And if that's the case, Merriman has put out plenty of effort to remain on a steady roll after having landed in show business at the ripe young age of 11. That was when he was brought out to Los Angeles, after having done commercials and local theater in Oklahoma, with a phone call from filmmaker Rob Reiner.

It was 1994, and Reiner wanted Merriman to audition for the lead in his new feature, "North." The story goes that the young actor was kept waiting for 10 days after reading for the part when Reiner couldn't decide between Merriman and another young lad named Elijah Wood.

"I didn't wind up getting that, you may remember," Merriman informs. But that turned out to be another stroke of luck. With Wood as its star, "North" would go on to become the biggest bomb of Reiner's career, a film that Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert once referred to on their show as "the worst film in history."

Merriman dodged a bullet.

"That's what I mean by God having a hand on my shoulder," he reiterates. And right after missing out on "North," Merriman wound up getting cast in a new NBC comedy series, "The Mommies," in '94 – and his career was off to the races. He's now up to three TV series and some 25 movies in 15 years, ranging from "The Ring Two" and "Final Destination 3" to a saucy romantic comedy called "Elevator Girl."

"Elevator Girl" is a new Hallmark Channel Original Movie (premiering Saturday, February 13 (9p.m. ET/PT, 8C)) which stars Merriman and "Party of Five" regular Lacey Chabert as unlikely lovebirds thrust together by chance when the elevator both are riding on breaks down. He's a hunky workaholic lawyer working at a big-time law firm. She's a free-spirited, artsy type working as a caterer at the dinner that's being thrown in his honor.

"It's the kind of project every young actor dreams about being a part of," Merriman gushes. "I get to play a young lawyer who wears Italian suits and drives a Mercedes. Who wouldn't want that? In reality, I have a BMW and suits that aren't necessarily Italian. I think they're from the Men's Wearhouse, actually."

The film is Merriman's first-ever romantic comedy in a career spent doing "more serious stuff, action and horror. It's nice to be able to be charming and romantic on camera and not worry about the risque'."

Indeed, Merriman loved everything about "Elevator Girl," including working with the Elevator Girl herself, Chabert, whom he called, "such a great person, and such a pro. We just had the greatest time together. We did a lot of dancing/driving around in the Mercedes…"

Huh? Dancing in a Mercedes?

"Oh yeah," Merriman replies. "Haven't you ever danced in a car? I'm a really good car dancer. Everyone should have a car dance that they do when they're partying. Once you get into the rhythm of it, it's really easy and cool."

If that doesn't sound like the fun-loving life of an all-American boy, what does? Actually, maybe
this: Merriman married his high school sweetie, named Micol, five years ago. She works in a "cute little jewelry store and show boutique in Burbank" while her husband is off doing his acting thing.

They lead a quiet life away from the Hollywood party circuit, drawn mostly to sports and charitable works. It speaks volumes about the Merrimans that they moved to Los Angeles fulltime only about two years ago, selling their Oklahoma house and bringing their stuff out here by car and truck. Before that, Ryan would book a job, work it, then go back to Oklahoma.

When he calls for an interview, Merriman's cell phone number is still the one he had back home and the same one on which he speaks to his mother an average of three times daily.

"It's funny, she's actually calling me right now!" he announces at one point during an interview. "We're a really close family."

The telephone is also Merriman's lifeline. He doesn't much go in for email and has no account on Facebook, My Space or Twitter. His take: "Call me if you want to talk. I might have 120 things to tell you. That's tough to do in a Facebook message. I'm an old-fashioned guy that way."

Actually, Merriman is old-fashioned in a lot of ways. His preferred recreation is riding dirt bikes and playing golf, which he claims to do "like a madman. In fact, I played four times just this week." But he combines it with fundraising, participating in an event entitled Tee It Up For the Troops that generates money for the families of soldiers killed in action overseas.

"My brother-in-law is in the service," he explains. "I'm there to support anything that involves the troops and the families."

While he claims to be recognized "not every day, but maybe every other day," the baby-faced Merriman believes that he's known more for a made-for-TV movie he made in 2001 at age 17 called "The Luck of the Irish" than his far more recent spate of horror flicks.

"People remember me from that, but they don't necessarily know it," he says. "They'll usually think I went to high school with them. That's the first thing. I have to kind of break down my resume' and finally people tag it to ‘Luck of the Irish.' It's pretty funny."

But Merriman isn't one to shrink from the recognition and is happy to get it in a town better known for chewing up actors and spitting them out than fueling their dreams.

"I've had nothing but great experiences, which is a total rarity," Merriman believes. "It's such a negative industry. You get 20 ‘No's' to every ‘Yes.' You have to be able to handle rejection and handle it well. Because the bottom line is, you need a little bit of that suffering to make the success sweeter."

Here's another original Hallmark movie that you can enjoy on a Saturday night. Ice Dreams wasn't my favorite Hallmark movie, but it is a sweet one that I think you Hallmark lovers will enjoy.

Ice Dreams Synopsis: When U.S. Olympian Amy Clayton's (Cauffiel) father died trying to get his daughter to practice on time, it only seemed right to hang up her skates for good, even if it meant disappointing her mother, Harriet (Long). But the call of the run-down Mid City Ice Rink was too strong to ignore, and having worked out a deal with Skipper (Stiller) and the owner the rink, Amy has continued to skate privately. When the owner passes away, he leaves the rink to his nephew, Tim King (Smith), who arrives to decide the property's fate. Having skated there for years as a kid, Tim knows what the rink means to the few who still frequent it, among them aspiring figure skater Nicky Laston (Noelle Bruno). But the offer from developers to buy the property is tempting, and with dwindling funds, Tim is finding it almost impossible to keep the rink open.
Meanwhile, Nicky and her mom find out that Amy is skating at Mid City, and convince the reluctant (and broke) ex-Olympian to coach Nicky. Although reluctant at first, Amy recognizes Nicky's dedication and talent, and through coaching the ambitious young skater, she has the chance to reevaluate her own dreams, even the one she thought she had left behind.

The Three Gifts Synopsis: When an orphanage is scheduled for renovations during the holiday season, owner Rita Green (Kennedy) must find a temporary home for some of the children. The three eldest boys, Mike (Dylan Sprayberry), Henry (Alex Zubarev) and Ray (Spencir Bridges), move in with Rita's nephew, Jack (Cain), and his wife, Cherie (Kelly), who own a wooden toy company. Worried he is not cut out for the role, Jack is apprehensive about taking care of the boys, who are notorious throughout town for their troublemaking. Cherie, on the other hand, is excited, as she and Jack were unable to have children of their own.
The first night in their new home, Ray overhears Cherie mention to Jack the possibility of adopting one of them. Suddenly, the three boys, each wanting desperately to be adopted, find themselves competing for the adoration of their temporary guardians, just as toy- making veteran Rodney (VelJohnson) is eager to teach Jack the value of discipline. In just a week, the boys are able to turn their acts around, learning the value of teamwork and respect. Jack even surprises himself with how much he enjoys having the boys around. But when they hear they're all headed back to the orphanage after the holidays, the heartbroken boys decide to run away. It is only once they've gone missing that Jack realizes he's ready to be a father – their father – and even the young at heart must grow up and adopt responsibility.

This story will definitely warm your heart and is a perfect movie to watch to get you ready for the holidays. Although I liked last week's movie, Mrs. Miracle better, I did enjoy Christmas in Canaan, and I think a lot of people will as well. And if you are a fan of Billy Ray Cyrus, then you need to make sure you don't miss this movie.

Christmas in Canaan Synopsis: Widower Daniel Burton (Cyrus) is doing his best to raise his three children on a limited income. But living in Canaan, TX, during the Civil Rights Movement, he soon faces more than just financial difficulties. His 10-year-old son, DJ (Zak Ludwig, "Martian Child"), has made an enemy of his classmate, Rodney (Jaishon Fisher, "Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story"), simply because Rodney is black. In an attempt to remedy the situation, Daniel and Rodney's grandmother, Miss Eunice (Candus Churchill, "The Andromeda Strain"), decide to force the boys to spend time together. It's slow going at first, but when the boys come upon a wounded puppy, their shared compassion pushes any racial tensions aside, and a lasting friendship is forged.
The boys remain friends through their teenage years, and when Miss Eunice dies, Rodney (Matt Ward, "Lullaby For Pi"), goes to live with DJ (Jacob Blair, "2012") and his family. With money tight as always and the holidays approaching, Daniel can't afford the presents he wishes he could give his family, and he tries to find a way to make Christmas special. What he does give them is a sense of hope, which Rodney in particular takes to heart. But when racial tensions rise in Canaan, the Burtons' white neighbors try to destroy the hope Rodney and the rest of the black community have built up. As he comes to understand the true meaning of family, Rodney will soon have to decide where he belongs and what to do with the inspiration the Burtons have given him.

Christmas in Canaan stars Billy Ray Cyrus (Daniel Burton), Jaishon Fisher (Young Rodney), Zak Ludwig (Young DJ), Jessica McLeod (Young Sarah), Darien Provost (Young Bobby), Tom Heaton (Wylie), Matt Ward (Older Rodney), and Jacob Blair (Older DJ).

Debbie Macomber's MRS. MIRACLE Review

If you're in the mood for some Holiday movie, how about giving Debbie Macomber's MRS. MIRACLE, which airs tonight, Saturday November 5 at 9pm on Hallmark Channel, a chance.

Mrs. Miracle is sort of a modern-day Marry Poppins story. James Van Der Beek stars as Seth Webster, a widower raising his two troublemaker six-year-olds sons. With the holidays approaching, Seth is getting desperate to find a new housekeeper, especially since his kids have chase away all the previous ones. In comes Mrs. Emily Merkle (Doris Roberts) aka Mrs. Miracle, who might just be what the family needed.

I quite enjoyed Mrs. Miracle and is definitely one of the better Hallmark movies that I have seen. It is the perfect movie to put you in the mood for the holidays.

Fans of James Van Der Beek will most likely enjoy seeing him play this really sweet character. And Doris Roberts is definitely a fun housekeeper, although let's face it, no one will ever be as good as Julie Andrews, but none the less, I thought she did a good job.

And if you're in the mood for a little romance, well you're in luck because Mrs. Miracle offers that as well, with Seth falling for Reba Maxwell (Erin Karpluk), the best friend to the Webster kids' first-grade teacher.

Overall, Mrs. Miracle is a really sweet movie. So if you're looking for a movie to put a smile on your face, you might want to give it a chance.

Catherine Bell ("Army Wives") and Chris Potter ("The Pacifier") are set to reprise their roles from "The Good Witch," Hallmark Channel's second-highest-rated original movie ever, with "The Good Witch's Wedding," a Hallmark Channel Original Movie. It has begun production in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and will premiere on the network in 2010.

In the new movie, Jake Russell (Potter) is looking for the perfect Christmas gift for his fiancée, Cassie Nightingale (Bell), and decides, with just six days left, to give her the perfect gift -- a wedding on Christmas Eve – but neither are prepared for all the obstacles that get in the way.

Almost as soon as Jake and Cassie decide to get married on Christmas Eve, complications arise. An ex-con, Leon Deeks (Graham Abbey, "The Border"), arrives in town, and Jake is asked by the Mayor to make him his top priority. At the same time, Jake's having trouble securing the wedding license since he can't find Cassie's documents proving her existence. There's also the difficulty in finding a wedding cake at the last minute. Last but not least, Jake's kids are upset: Brandon (Mathew Knight, "Candles on Bay Street") wants to spend time with his new girlfriend, and is feuding with his sister, Lori (Hannah Endicott-Douglas, "Samantha: An American Girl Holiday.") Meanwhile, Lori manages to lose Cassie's wedding ring.

It's up to Cassie to work her magic with her family and the community in order to fix all the obstacles in time to turn the wedding into a perfect holiday celebration.

"The Good Witch," which premiered Jan. 19, 2008 with a 3.8 HH rating and nearly 3.2 million homes, is the story of a mysterious and mystical woman who moves into a small town, lives in a reputed haunted house, and has everyone wondering if she's a witch because of the magical changes she begins to make in everyone's lives. National Tree Synopsis: In its search for a new national Christmas tree, the United States enlists the help of the Box of Toys organization, which holds a contest, receiving entries from across the country. The winning tree belongs to 17-year-old video blogger Rock Burdock (Williams), whose father, Corey (McCarthy), planted the Sitka Spruce for him the day he was born. One week before Thanksgiving, Corey and Rock, accompanied by marketing rep Faith Russell (Matchett), embark on a drive across the country to bring the tree to Washington, D.C., where it will be planted across from the White House and lit by the President and the First Family. Rock dreads spending days on end with a dad who doesn't understand him, but Corey hopes the trip will allow for some father-son bonding, however belated it may be. As the Burdocks make their way across the country, their tree garners more and more fans, as do each of them. However, with the increased media attention, the tree's significance begins to be more about its marketability than its sentimental value as a national symbol, and it's up to Rock and Corey to decide – as a family – which is more important.

Evan Williams, who stars in the popular and long-running "Degrassi: The Next Generation" on The N, Nickelodeon’s sister network, hits the road with popular actors Andrew McCarthy ("Lipstick Jungle") and Kari Matchett ("Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip") in the family film, based on the novel by David Kranes.

Billy Ray Cyrus, the world-renowned country music superstar, Grammy® nominee and television and film actor, will STAGE the world premiere of his newest music video exclusively on Hallmark Channel, Saturday, November 28, during the premiere of the Hallmark Channel Original Movie "The National Tree" (Saturday, November 28, 8-10p.m. ET/PT). In addition, the song and video will get an unprecedented, multiplatform rollout across a variety of Hallmark Channel websites and social networking accounts.
The new song, "We'll Get By Somehow (We Always Do)," the audio and video which were recently filmed at Cyrus' farm in Nashville, was penned by Cyrus as an emotional response to the storyline of his new Hallmark Channel Original Movie, "Christmas in Canaan," which premieres on the network Saturday, December 12 (8p.m. ET/PT, 7C).
The excitement begins early for fans of Hallmark Channel USA on Facebook, where Cyrus aficionados will get a rare opportunity to stream the song on November 24 – four days before the video's world premiere. Additional opportunities to access the song and the video will be announced at Twitter/HallmarkChannel, along with instructions on how fans can win one of 100 signed copies of Billy Ray Cyrus's current CD, BACK TO TENNESSEE.
In the film, which is based on the book co-written by Grammy winner Kenny Rogers, Cyrus stars as Daniel Burton, a widower struggling to get by as he raises his children in Canaan, TX, in the early 1960s. When his young son picks a fight with a black classmate, Daniel forces the two of them to spend time together, leading to an unlikely, lifelong friendship.
"When I read the script, I was floored to realize that this character I'm playing, Daniel, was my dad," says Cyrus, whose father passed away in 2006. "I had to take it on because it's like I'm able to honor him with this role, and that's a bigger thrill than I can say. And to also be able to write and sing the theme song really brings it all full circle."
