Watch a sneak peek of EXPEDITION WEEK "When Crocs Ate Dinosaurs" which airs tonight, Saturday, November 21 at 9PM ET/PT on the National Geographic Channel.
Synopsis: EXPEDITION WEEK "When Crocs Ate Dinosaurs" - Some hundred million years ago, crocodiles were the ruling T. rexes of the waters. They galloped on land, ambushed prey at the river’s edge … even terrorized dinosaurs. And more, these swift predators evolved through the ages into the modern crocs we know today. Now, armed with newly discovered prehistoric crocodile bones, Explorer-in-Residence Dr. Paul Sereno is determined to bring the ancient creatures to life — and tell their fantastic untold story. Learn about a croc that pursued prey across land, a supercroc that locked its jaws around dinos, with a startlingly canine face. Blending art, forensics and biology, a team reanimates a lost world of strange Cretaceous crocs that paleontology forgot.

Synopsis: EXPEDITION WEEK "The First Jesus?" - He was called the King of the Jews, believed to be a Messiah. Just before Passover, the Romans beheaded him and crucified many of his followers outside Jerusalem. But his name was not Jesus ... it was Simon, a self-proclaimed Messiah who died four years before Christ was born. Now, new analysis of a three-foot-tall stone tablet from the first century B.C., being hailed by scholars as a "Dead Sea Scroll on stone," speaks of an early Messiah and his resurrection. Was Simon of Peraea real? Did his life serve as the prototype of a Messiah for Jesus and his followers? And could this tablet shake up the basic premise of Christianity? We'll go to Israel to assess this unique and mysterious artifact, including testing by a leading archeological geologist and comprehensive review of the letters, script and content by a Dead Sea Scroll expert. Then, from Jerusalem to Jericho, we'll investigate key archeological ruins that could help prove Simon was indeed real — all of which just might sway the skeptics.

The DOG WHISPERER returns for an all new season tonight on the National Geographic Channel with a special episode "How To Raise a Puppy" airing at 9pm.
This episode accompanies Cesar Millan's new book How to Raise the Perfect Dog: Through Puppyhood and Beyond (for which we'll have a review on Daemon's Books soon, so keep an eye out).
I am a huge fan of Dog Whisperer and this was one of my favorite episodes because it taught you so much about some of the things you need to do when you get a puppy. Plus seeing it in action is always better than simply reading about it. One of my friend actually just got a dog and I'm going to make sure she watches this episode, I think it'll be really helpful and instructive.
And if you're already a fan of the show, you're definitely going to enjoy this episode. If nothing [...]
This is a post from Daemon's TV.

Synopsis: DOG WHISPERER "How To Raise a Puppy" - The season premiere begins with Junior, a pit bull pup Cesar hopes will someday assist him with his toughest cases now that his trusted right hand Daddy is nearing retirement. Daddy and Cesar have been a team since Daddy was four months old, and any fan of Dog Whisperer knows Daddy accompanies Cesar on many of his hardest cases — including a visit with Oprah! But with age come limitations. So, in order to ease Daddy into retirement, Cesar adopted the first young puppy for his puppy project — Junior. Daddy and Junior were instantly attracted to one another, and thus Junior joined Cesar's pack. Next Cesar selects a Labrador pup to join the pack. Southern California Labrador Retriever Rescue brings two labs to Cesar's Dog Psychology Center. Cesar is immediately drawn to the calm, submissive male, whom Cesar slowly introduces to the pack at the center. The pack mentality of all the dogs has never been clearer, as you can see firsthand how — with no human interaction — the pack slowly takes in the new puppy. Cesar eventually names this little guy Marley, after one of the world's most famous bad dogs (the subject of last year's hit movie "Marley & Me," about the life of Cesar's client and friend John Grogan).

[Press Release - Released by National Geographic Channel]
In five seasons and more than 100 episodes, Cesar has seen every canine case imaginable ― red-zone aggression, fearful anxiety and just plain weird. But never before has he shown viewers how they can avoid these problems from the very start! In the sixth season premiere of DOG WHISPERER WITH CESAR MILLAN: How to Raise the Perfect Dog, Cesar goes back to the basics, adopting four adorable pups and filming them living with him and his pack for their first eight months to show viewers how to avoid problems from the very start.
"I realize I may actually be putting myself out of business with this episode," joked the three-time Emmy nominee. "But I wanted to adopt four different breeds and work with them in my pack from the very beginning, showing that if you prevent bad behaviors in puppyhood, you [...]
This is a post from Daemon's TV.

"But I wanted to adopt four different breeds and work with them in my pack from the very beginning, showing that if you prevent bad behaviors in puppyhood, you can steer clear of canine nightmares down the road."

The season premiere is also the documentary companion to Cesar's fourth book -- "How to Raise The Perfect Dog: Through Puppyhood and Beyond" -- being released nationwide by Harmony Books, a division of Random House, Inc., on Tuesday, October 6.

How to Raise the Perfect Dog begins the sixth season of Dog Whisperer with 30 all-new episodes. This year Cesar also goes international, searching out problem dogs down under in Australia! Plus, he takes a road trip to Texas, works with NASA astronauts, visits "The Biggest Loser's" Jillian Michaels, helps former Guns N' Roses drummer Matt Sorum and much more.

The season premiere begins with Junior, a pit bull pup Cesar hopes will someday assist him with his toughest cases now that his trusted right hand Daddy is nearing retirement. Daddy and Cesar have been a team since Daddy was four months old, and any fan of Dog Whisperer knows Daddy accompanies Cesar on many of his hardest cases -- including a visit with Oprah! But with age come limitations. So, in order to ease Daddy into retirement, Cesar adopted the first young puppy for his puppy project -- Junior.

The pack mentality of all the dogs has never been clearer, as you can see firsthand how -- with no human interaction -- the pack slowly takes in the new puppy. Cesar eventually names this little guy Marley, after one of the world's most famous bad dogs (the subject of last year's hit movie "Marley & Me," about the life of Cesar's client and friend John Grogan).

For the next two puppies, Cesar selects a miniature schnauzer, Angel, and an English bulldog, Mr. President. The goal is to raise four balanced pups of different breeds, and to make the most of each breed's characteristics. For the next eight months, our cameras are there as Cesar shows viewers how to raise the perfect dog.

Cesar begins by setting rules, boundaries and limitations early on -- a mantra familiar to any viewer. As the new pack demonstrates, Cesar isn't the only one setting the rules -- it takes only a hint of a growl from Daddy to send Junior, Angel, Marley and Mr. President into Daddy-pleasing mode.

Cesar walks through how to deal with overexcitement, common in many young dogs, and how to overcome this type of behavior from the very beginning using calm, assertive energy. Cesar goes through the important rituals such as mealtime, and how to start them young with a routine. Next up is housebreaking -- which can become an owner's worst nightmare, or, if done right -- Cesar's Way -- comes with no drama.

And of course, no Cesar boot camp would be complete without the all-important ritual of exercise. For the new pups, Cesar looks to swimming as a key element. Surprisingly, all the new puppies take to the water except one -- Marley, the only real water breed. Cesar shows Marley how to overcome this fear early.

Finally, Cesar addresses socialization -- bringing the new puppies to the dog park -- and a message very important to Cesar about spaying and neutering your dogs. We join Cesar as he takes Mr. President to the doctor to get fixed.

At the end of the eight months, Cesar proudly passes Marley, Angel and Mr. President on to new homes. And Junior is a permanent member of the Millan household -- and on Dog Whisperer.

About Dog Whisperer
Each episode of Dog Whisperer follows dog behavior specialist Cesar Millan as he goes directly into the homes of dog owners -- without any prior information about the dog's case -- and documents the remarkable transformations that take place under Cesar's calm, assertive guidance.

The hugely popular series has grown into a pop culture phenomenon, including parodies on "South Park" and "Saturday Night Live"; references on popular shows including "Jeopardy!" and Bravo's hit series "Work Out"; appearances on "Oprah," "Tonight Show with Jay Leno," "Martha Stewart," "Today Show," "The View" and "Live with Regis and Kelly"; and a guest star role for Cesar on the hit series "Ghost Whisperer."

The series celebrated its landmark 100th episode in September 2008 with a grand reunion of many of the past guests -- and their dogs. Dog Whisperer has also been nominated three times for the Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Reality Program.

They are living giants -- among Earth's largest and longest-lived trees. Some tower higher than 350 feet, or taller than the Statue of Liberty; some may have been seedlings when Jesus was born. These natural legends house secret-garden worlds high up in their canopies and shroud centuries-old mysteries.

This fall, National Geographic magazine and National Geographic Channel (NGC) journey deep into the great redwood forests on the American West Coast for an illuminating look at these magnificent wonders -- from the outermost edges of the forest to the tip of a single tree's crown. For the first time, we'll size up the health and future of the redwood range on foot and scale the trees' hulking limbs 30 stories up to glimpse rich canopy ecosystems in the clouds. Then, we'll see how state-of-the-art digital technology provides a never-before-seen perspective of a 300-foot tall titan.

The redwood adventure is described in the cover story of the October issue of National Geographic magazine and in NGC's Explorer: Climbing Redwood Giants, premiering Tuesday, September 29, 2009, at 10 p.m. ET/PT. More information can be found at nationalgeographic.com/redwoods.

In 2007-2008, conservationist and National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence Mike Fay set out to walk the entire redwood range to study how forestry management is affecting the trees' survival. Both the magazine cover article and film illuminate Fay and his hiking partner's unprecedented 333-day, 1,800-mile trek from Big Sur north to southern Oregon. "There's nothing that compares to the redwood," says Fay in the film. "When you walk through one of the ancient groves of redwoods, you get a feeling like no other forest can give you."

Over the course of their grueling journey, Fay became convinced that California could be at the forefront of a new philosophy of forestry, one that holds the promise not just of sustainable logging but of some forest recovery.

In the National Geographic magazine cover article, author Joel Bourne describes the complicated logging history of the redwood range and reveals the forestry management techniques that may lead toward Fay's vision of redwood forests managed not only for human benefit but also with an eye to bringing back the rich diversity of ecosystems that once flourished throughout the redwood range.

Graphics show how canopy gardens grow, and Michael "Nick" Nichols' photographs of the forests, their wildlife and the communities around them bring home the beauty of this unique American habitat. The issue includes a five-page foldout poster of Nichols' full-length portrait of a 300-foot tree.

Juxtaposed with the challenges of Fay's 11-month trek through clear-cuts, second-growth forest, dense underbrush and soaring cathedral-like old-growth stands, Explorer: Climbing Redwood Giants highlights the work of forest scientist Steve Sillett of Humboldt State University ― the first scientist to climb into redwood canopies and pioneer studies of their rich canopy ecosystems. Hear about his "mind-blowing" findings in the canopy during his extensive eight-year research, including immense tree limbs that support three-foot-thick mats of canopy soil, huckleberry bushes with fruit and even wandering salamanders.

Sillett's painstaking cataloging and measurement of trees by hand is complemented by a new use of lidar (light detection and ranging) technology, which allows him to pinpoint trees from airplane surveys -- prompting discoveries of tall trees hidden on slopes or valleys. Viewers are taken up into the trees to experience the mystery and grandeur of the canopy and get a behind-the-scenes glimpse of how National Geographic photographer Nick Nichols captured a unique perspective of a 300-foot tall tree. Nichols used state-of-the-art digital technology and human ingenuity to rig cameras that smoothly traveled from the crown of the tree to its base.

With insight from Fay's extreme expedition and Sillett's detailed research, as well as that of foresters practicing forest management, National Geographic celebrates the majesty of the remaining ancient giants and shines a light on what the future holds for our redwood forests.

"If you're lucky enough to get up into the crowns of one these trees, it puts your own insignificant existence in perspective," says Sillett in the film. "It makes you realize that there's something much greater than yourself."

Together, National Geographic magazine and National Geographic Channel reach more than 350 million people worldwide.

Explorer: Climbing Redwood Giants is produced by National Geographic Television for the National Geographic Channel. For National Geographic Television, executive producer is Jonathan Halperin, series producer is Max Salomon and producer/directors are John Rubin and James Donald. For the National Geographic Channel executive producer is Kathleen Cromley, senior vice president of production is Juliet Blake and executive vice president of content is Steve Burns.

Think Law And Order but for Animals.
[Press Release - Release By National Geographic Channel]
(WASHINGTON, D.C. -- AUGUST 18, 2009) In New York's war on animal abuse, some of the worst offenders are pursued by a group of tattooed motorcycle-riding tough guys on a mission to save animals in danger. They call themselves Rescue Ink, and these are their stories.
In a metropolitan area with more than 20 million residents, thousands of animals -- dogs, cats, and even chickens and piranhas -- are neglected, abused, hoarded or housed illegally. A few years ago, eight tough guys from the mean streets, who frequented hot rod shows and tattoo parlors, discovered their strongest bond was actually a passion for animals -- and they formed a rescue organization like no other. Some have violent and turbulent pasts, complete with run-ins with the law, but all are seeking redemption and solace in their [...]
This is a post from Daemon's TV.

Some have violent and turbulent pasts, complete with run-ins with the law, but all are seeking redemption and solace in their mission to save animals from human abuse.

On Friday, September 25, 2009, at 10 p.m. ET/PT, the National Geographic Channel (NGC) premieres RESCUE INK UNLEASHED, a new weekly series that documents this unlikely group of animal activists on their crusade to save helpless, abandoned and abused animals. Featured on "Ellen" and in The New York Times, this eclectic band of brothers -- composed of club bouncers, security guards and even a retired New York Police Department (NYPD) detective -- is on call 24/7 to take on cases no one else will. They're not cops, animal experts or even animal control. They're just big guys with even bigger hearts and a desire to save animals from deplorable living conditions and abusive or simply misguided owners.

Each one-hour episode of RESCUE INK UNLEASHED takes viewers on "ride-alongs" as members follow up on leads in the New York metro area. Taking an average of 100 calls a week at their headquarters on Long Island, they jump into their cars -- or on their "hogs" -- and confront alleged animal abusers, rescue fighting dogs, investigate stolen animals and (firmly) encourage owners to give up their pets if it is in the best interest of the animals.

"We are the Army for animals," comments Big Ant, one of the group's leaders. With 1,700 pounds of muscle and more than 80 tattoos, the men of Rescue Ink use their size, street smarts and courage to tackle jobs other groups wouldn't touch. Neither the dangerous nor the disgusting will deter them. Their motto is "Abusers Are Losers!" and they are working hard to establish themselves as a nationally recognized animal welfare organization.

After responding to a call, they assess a situation and, if necessary, foster animals or rely on a network of local experts who share their no-kill philosophy. They have established relationships with the NYPD; Animal Care & Control of New York City; and various experts, veterinarians, organizations and fellow rescue groups with experience in caring for and training distressed, aggressive and skittish animals.

They also make it a priority to bring animals to whatever medical or training facility they need for the best care, especially when it comes to spaying and neutering pets -- a cause the guys are very passionate about. And they won't hesitate to confront people others might be afraid of -- such as talking to the neighborhood bully with a loud barking dog or even entering the projects to rescue a hospitalized man's abandoned pit bulls -- to bring peace to a neighborhood and, more importantly, the animal.

RESCUE INK UNLEASHED episodes this season will feature:

    * Joe Panz's fiery, umpire-like confrontation with a Long Island man accused of shooting stray cats on his lawn with a pellet gun. On their first visit, the man seems open to the Rescue Ink team's help, but when the guys return unannounced, the man calls the police. At the end of the day, the team has to walk away from this situation without any resolution -- this time around!

    * The team chasing hens and a rooster in a suburban Queens neighborhood ("These guys are flying around everywhere!") and transporting them to a no-kill facility in upstate New York.

    * The group's biggest rescue and adoption effort to date when they encounter a hoarder housing more than 100 cats!

    * Relocating an entire school of illegal "pet" piranhas from a Bronx apartment to a new, legal home at an accredited Long Island aquarium.

    * Big Ant making a wheelchair out of spare parts for Brownie, a 6-year-old Dachshund with a slipped disc and medical costs that are taking a toll on her loving family.

    * And the story of "Zeus" -- a "boxer mix" puppy that his owner kept in a basement filled with the dog's feces. Big Ant challenges the man on the spot: "Clean it up, go 'head. 'Cause you know why? If you do it now, I know it's done." But despite the tense beginning, Zeus' owner learns to become a responsible dog owner, and follow-up visits from the Rescue Ink guys show he is making progress!

The Rescue Ink team of animal advocates is as diverse as their array of tattoos, and includes (in alphabetical order):

    * Angel: A retired NYPD detective they call the "Pet Investigator," Angel says he used to save people from animals -- and now he saves animals from people.

    * Batso: A 75-year-old covered in head-to-toe bat and spiderweb tattoos, Batso is the spiritual father of the group. After losing his son two years ago to Lou Gehrig's disease, he is committed to living a full life and achieving new goals, like overcoming illiteracy and devoting his life to animals.

    * Big Ant: Standing over 6 feet tall and weighing more than 300 pounds, his presence commands respect. Well known in the gearhead community and biker world, he's reliable for a good laugh and is always thinking of how to make life better for animals.

    * Des: Known as "The Cat Man," Des is a friend to all felines. Although he grew up in the tough neighborhoods of Jamaica, Queens, where survival included hanging out with a gang, Des' feline friends have given him a new purpose in life. Whenever there is a "cat-astrophe," Des is a guy who doesn't pussyfoot around.

    * Eric: At 6 feet and 230 pounds, Eric is a big guy who surprises people with his little dogs, a couple of Min-Pins -- and, of course, he has a Rottie to keep them company. With security and crowd control experience, Eric is a voice that people listen to, and he can be very persuasive.

    * G: A 275-pound speed demon, George -- better known as "G" -- is a former industrial firefighter who enjoys life on the edge. He takes a stern approach to training -- whether he's teaching his son ("Q") about sports or transforming an abused dog into a house pet -- but his tough love tactics belie his soft heart.

    * Joe Panz: At 6-feet-2 and 250 pounds, Joe Panz is the guy you want on your side in a fight. With six bullet holes to prove it, he has led a tough life, but is now finding animal rescue his most productive outlet. As far as he's concerned, it's his job in this life to protect the weak, and cruelty can fire up his temper.

    * Johnny O: At 6 feet and 220 pounds, Johnny O is a former bodyguard, mixed martial arts fighter and personal trainer who has dedicated himself to staying clean and sober after years of substance abuse and trouble with the law. Today he is a model of self-discipline who loves all dogs, but his favorites are his pit bulls Lucy and Chuck!

Their first book, also titled "Rescue Ink," will be released by Viking Press on September 21, 2009. For more information, visit natgeotv.com/rescueink.

Tonight, March 20, the National Geographic Channel will premiere the new season of its show, DOGTOWN, at 10pm.
If you're a dog lover, then there is a big chance you will be touched by Dogtown. It follows a no-kill shelter (part of Best Friends Animal Sanctuary) that rehabilitates dogs.
Having seen a few episodes, I did enjoy Dogtown, although my favorite dog show remains The Dog Whisperer.
Watch a clip from tonight's episode below, and don't forget to tune in tonight at 10pm.

Synopsis: Dogtown: The Survivors - Aristotle, a terrier mix rescued from a hoarding situation, comes to DogTown with a skin condition that is one of the worst cases Dr. Mike Dix has ever seen. His hair has fallen out and his skin is covered in scabs. But with special meds and extra care, watch this shy puppy transform into a "bouncing not-itching monkey" with a bright future. Tonight, March 8, the National Geographic Channel will premiere KINGDOM OF THE BLUE WHALE at 8pm.
Narrated by Tom Selleck, Kingdom of the Blue Whale takes viewers on an adventure to discover the mating rituals of the blue whales in order to better protect them. Scientists will try to find out where the blue whales go to give birth and hopefully get the very first footage of some baby blue whales.
I was lucky enough to get an early look at Kingdom of the Blue Whale and as someone who loves dolphins, whales and cetaceans in general, I was really interested in learning more about the blue whales.

While I felt they spent too much time on certain parts, overall if you are interested in learning more about blue whales, you might find Kingdom of the Blue Whale very interesting.

We find out new information previously unknown about their behaviors and lifestyles. And yes, we get to see the very first baby blue whale caught on film.

Don't forget that Kingdom of the Blue Whale premieres tonight, March 8, at 8pm on the National Geographic Channel.

Watch a video from below of Kingdom of the Blue Whale, which features the youngest blue whale ever captured on film.

DOG WHISPERER is a show I really love. Every time I am blown away by what Cesar Milan is able to do with the dogs.
On Sunday, December 28 at 8pm on the National Geographic Channel, Cesar will try to help Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and Pete Wentz and their dogs before the arrival of their first baby. Of course by now Ashlee Simpson already had a baby boy, but I think it might be fun to check it out.
You can watch a preview for the episode below.

Dog Whisperer: Cricket and Hemingway & Rigby: While expecting their first child, pop star Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and "Fall Out Boy" bassist/lyricist Pete Wentz, were concerned how their aggressive, but beloved, English bulldog Hemingway would react when the baby arrived. They hoped a canine companion might help, but when 5-month-old English bulldog Rigby joined the budding family, Hemingway's dog aggression escalated. As Ashlee's due date rapidly approaches, [...]
This is a post from Daemon's TV.

As Ashlee's due date rapidly approaches, Cesar is called in to help the couple create a balanced environment that will be safe for their newborn. Will Cesar have these rock stars and their dogs singing a new tune? Also in this episode, Cesar rehabilitates Cricket, a fun-loving retriever with a bad habit of attacking anything between him and his food.
