I really loved the introduction to the series (read my review here) and have been looking forward to the premiere of Caprica ever since.

CAPRICA Posters

James Marsters is heading to CAPRICA (the Battlestar Galactica prequel) for a multiple episodes arc, according to Michael Ausiello.

Marsters will play a dangerous terrorist leader by the name of Barnabus Greeley in a minimum of three episodes. Driven by desires both moralistic and carnal, Barnabus is as lethal as he is unpredictable.

Of course as a Buffy fan and James Marsters fan, it's no surprise that I am excited about this casting. The bad news is that we'll have to wait until next year to see Caprica, which premieres on January 22, 2010 on Syfy.

My Own Worst Enemy

Synopsis: My Own Worst Enemy follows the life of American secret agent Edward Albright and his cover alias, Henry Spivey who had no knowledge of his double life. Albright, played by Christian Slater, was implanted with a chip that allowed his handlers to physically switch Albright's personality to that of his alias. However, in the pilot episode, there was a malfunction which caused Albright's personalities to switch at random, revealing his secret life to his alias.

Cast: Christian Slater, Madchen Amick, Taylor Lautner, Bella Thorne, Saffron Burrows, Mike O'Malley, Alfre Woodard, James Cromwell

Recommendations: I enjoyed My Own Worst Enemy when it was on TV and I think it's worth a look.

iCarly (Season 1, Volume 2)

Synopsis: The series focuses on a girl named Carly who creates her own web show called iCarly with her best friends Sam and Freddie.

Recommendations: I just don't think I'm the target audience for this, so I'll just pass.

Synopsis: Dallas, a soap-opera, revolves around the Ewings, a wealthy Texas family in the oil and cattle-ranching industries.

New TV on DVD Releases for the Week of April 21 2009

CAPRICA, the prequel to Battlestar Galactica, was released today on DVD and Digital Download. Caprica a one hour and a half introduction to the series that will start in 2010 on the Sci Fi channel.

Originally, after watching the previews for Caprica, I wasn't too excited to watch it. It just didn't look like it would be that great, especially since it lacked some of the things I had come to love in Battlestar Galactica, the space element, the cylons, etc. But I was wrong, Caprica was able to totally capture my attention after the first five minutes, and now I am looking forward to finding out what happens next.

Ronald D. Moore and David Eick (executive producers of Battlestar Galactica) have done it again. But the great thing about Caprica is that it stands on its own as a series, meaning you don't need to be a fan or have even seen Battlestar Galactica to enjoy it, while still being tied to Battlestar Galactica in ways that will please its fans.

Caprica follows the lives of Daniel Graystone (Eric Stoltz) and Joseph Adama (Esai Morales) as they try to deal with the loss of their daughters.

During the movie, we find out more about what it was like to live on Caprica, and we of course find out more about the Adama family and where William Adama came from. In addition, we also see the beginning of the creation of what will become the cylon race.

Fans will of course also recognize some of the words and sentences that we have come to associate with Battlestar Galactica, life "Frak" and "So Say We All." But I think the most interesting thing is how the concept of one true God, that we used to associate with Cylons is portrayed in the movie. It just gives this whole new dimension to the show.

And finally, I have to mention the brilliant character development as well as performances by the cast. Battlestar Galactica was known for its great storylines, but also for some powerful acting, and we find that again in Caprica. You definitely feel the touch of Ronald D. Moore and David Eick on Caprica, and I think this movie sets up a pretty great foundation for the series.

So I say that if you enjoy compelling stories and great acting, you will definitely enjoy Caprica.

CAPRICA DVD & Pictures

Sci Fi has released the first promo for its new show, CAPRICA, which is a prequel to Battlestar Galactica.

So far I am not impressed. To be honest if I didn't know this was a prequel to Battlestar Galactica I'm not even sure I would want to watch it. Plus, everything I actually like about Battlestar Galactica is absent, no cylons, no space ships, you get the picture.

I know that it's not supposed to be Battlestar Galactica 2, but I thought I would be more excited. Or maybe the trailer is just not that great. Either way, I'm still going to check out the first episode and make my decision then. I really hope that I'm wrong and this ends up being my replacement for Battlestar Galactica.
