STARGATE ATLANTIS is Cancelled

August 21, 2008

Joe Flanigan as Lt. Col. John Sheppard, Jewel Staite as Dr. Jennifer Keller, Robert Picardo as Richard Woolsey, Jason Momoa as Ronan Dex, Rachel Luttrell as Teyla Emmagan, David Hewlett as Dr. Rodney McKay

Stargate Atlantis is officially canceled. It is with great regret that we have learned today that this will be the last season for Stargate Atlantis. After the season ends, the network plans to have a a two-hour Stargate Atlantis movie to wrap things up.

According to the show’s writer, Joseph Mallozzi, the reason behind the cancellation was, you guessed it, money. Here is what he had to say on his blog:

Ultimately, it comes down to the numbers - less the ratings and more the bottom line. The longer a show is on the air, the more expensive it is to produce. Throw in the resurgence of the Canadian dollar, once pegged at 63 cents to the U.S. greenback, it now hovers at par, an approximate 37 cent bump which adds a significant hit to the production budget.

I believe it is a shame that even successful SciFi shows like Stargate Atlantis get cancelled. It is not like we have a lot of shows out there that we can rely on to take over. I know there is some buzz that maybe there might be a completely new Stargate franchise with the rumored Stargate Universe but let’s be real here. If Stargate Atlantis got canceled because it became expensive to shoot, what is to say that the same wouldn’t happen to Stargate Universe.?

At the rate things are going, they might start shooting shows in China to save on costs…and I am not even kidding people.

What do you guys think of Stargate Atlantis being canceled?

Review: STARGATE ATLANTIS (5×01) - “Search and Rescue” Part Two

July 6, 2008

Rachel Luttrell as Teyla Emmagan

I just finished watching the screener of the first episode of Season Five of STARGATE ATLANTIS “Search and Rescue - Part Two”. Here is what I thought of the episode:

The Good
It’s good to see the team back in action. Last season’s finale is somewhat quickly taken care of at the beginning and we move into the nitty-gritty of the “Rescue” part of the episode. Overall, there was decent action and an interesting story line for the episode (except for the end but we will get to that in a little bit)

The Bad
Rodney is still a whiny little ….OK, I actually like the character but the writers need to grow him a little bit and stop him whining so much. I am sure that even the actor David Hewlett would appreciate some dialogue change.

The Ugly
Ok, I don’t want to give away the end so I will save my full blown rant for myself. But I just want to say one thing….If you are a fan of Sam Carter, the end will be a huge shocker. When I saw it, I thought to myself: “Really? Are you kidding me?”. Any thoughts from you guys would be welcome because I am at a lack for words.

Overall, an interesting episode. Mostly for the last few minutes. Next episode should prove even more compelling.

Sci Fi renews STARGATE ATLANTIS for a fifth season

October 24, 2007

STARGATE ATLANTIS - David Hewelett as Mckay, Amanda Tapping as Carter, Joe Flanigan as Lt. Col. John Sheppard, Rachel Luttrell as Teyla, Jason Momoa as Ronon

The Sci-Fi Channel has renewed STARGATE ATLANTIS for a fifth season.

According to Variety, Stargate Atlantis has been averaging 1.8 million total viewers.

” ‘Atlantis’ truly came out from under the shadow of its sister series this year and proved that it’s a hit in its own right,” said Sci Fi’s Mark Stern, exec veep of original programming.

With the end of Stargate SG-1, I’m sure fans are happy to know they will at least get its sister TV show for one more season.

And one more TV show I added on my TV on DVD list. My Netflix queue is getting very long…

On Tonight, Friday 10/5: FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS, MOONLIGHT, and more…

October 5, 2007

Daemon's TV Fridays TV Schedule Fall 2007

Daemon's TV Choice

Ghost Whisperer

GHOST WHISPERER “Don’t Try This At Home” - 8pm CBS
I was glad to see Melinda back last week. It’s always a fun way to end the week. Plus now that Jay Mohr is a regular, that’s one more reason to tune in.

Dog Whisperer

DOG WHISPERER - 8pm National Geographic
My weekly dog show is back. This TV show is such a fun one to watch on a Friday night, really relaxing. Some of these dogs are just so adorable, I always feel like adopting one, but then I think of all the work that comes with them…

Friday Night Lights

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS “Last Days of Summer” - 9pm NBC
Yes! Finally, Friday Night Lights is back. This is probably one of the best shows on TV right now. If you are not watching Friday Night Lights, you need to. I keep repeating it, it’s not a TV show about football. I started watching Friday Night Lights after a friend told me it was really good (and he is very picky) and then I convinced another friend to watch it and she loved it. I have already seen the season premiere from when it was available on Yahoo!TV, but that won’t keep me from tuning in again and re-experience it once more. Come on, you know you want to tune in too, what else are you gonna do?

Moonlight

MOONLIGHT “Out of the Past” - 9pm CBS
My other Friday night favorite TV show, Moonlight, is back with a second episode. I am so excited to see what Mick will be up to tonight. Check out some pictures from “Out of the Past” here.

Stargate Atlantis

STARGATE ATLANTIS “Lifeline” - 10pm Sci-Fi
I decided to mention Stargate Atlantis, just because Sci-Fi has really good shows and I think that lots of people love Stargate Atlantis. I have watched it occasionally and always wished I had seen it from the beginning.

The Soup

THE SOUP - 10pm E!
The soup is such a fun show, it’s the perfect ending to a hard week. How do they come up with some of their stories?

Tonight you can also catch repeats of Pushing Daisies (8pm on ABC) and Private Practice (9pm on ABC).

On Tonight, Friday 9/28: MOONLIGHT, GHOST WHISPERER, and more…

September 27, 2007

Wow, this has been a crazy week. Thank God we’re getting one day break before the craziness starts all over again on Sunday.

Daemon's TV Choice

Ghost Whisperer

GHOST WHISPERER “The Underneath” - 8pm CBS
Yes, it’s true, I watch Ghost Whisperer and I’m not ashamed to say it. It’s not my favorite show, but I do enjoy it on Friday nights. It’s very relaxing and even though the storylines can get cheesy, it has some good moments.

Dog Whisperer

DOG WHISPERER - 8pm National Geographic
Cesar Millan is on tonight and helping dog owners “fix” their dogs. I keep saying it, this guy is amazing. Some of these dogs I wouldn’t even approach, but he can help all of them.

Moonlight

MOONLIGHT “No Such Thing As Vampires” - 9pm CBS
Oh Yes!!! Finally the wait is over! Tonight my most anticipated show, for which I haven’t had the pleasure of seeing the pilot yet, starts. Even though, I am pretty confident in my intuition about the show and I’m 99% sure I’m going to love it, I cannot speak for everyone else until I have actually seen it. Don’t forget to read all my coverage of Moonlight which includes lots of videos and photos.
Story: Mick St. John is a captivating, charming- and immortal- private investigator from Los Angeles who defies the traditional blood-sucking norms of his vampire tendencies by using his wit and powerful supernatural abilities to help the living. In a life-altering twist of fate, Mick was “bitten” 60 years ago by his new bride, the seductive Coraline. Forever 30 years of age, Mick’s as handsome and charismatic as the day he was “turned,” and he eschews others of his kind who view humans only as a source of nourishment. With only a handful of like-minded confidantes for company, including the eternally young, wealthy and mischievous Josef, a hedge fund trader who relishes his uniqueness, Mick fills his infinite days protecting the living. But one night years ago, a single act of kindness changed Mick when he saved a young girl’s life, making him want to be a better vampire. Now their paths cross again and Mick develops a distinctive bond with Beth Turner who has grown into a beautiful, ambitious Internet investigative reporter. Reconnecting with her unleashes feelings Mick knows he can’t pursue without exposing the part of him that would make him a monster in Beth’s eyes. As Mick lives between two realities, fighting his adversaries among the undead and falling in love, he discovers the mysteries and pleasures that a valuable life has to offer.

Stargate Atlantis

STARGATE ATLANTIS “Adrift” - 10pm Sci-Fi
I put this as a Daemon’s Choice even though I don’t watch it because I have seen a few episodes and I really think that the reason I am not watching the show is because I didn’t watch it from the start. It’s on my list of TV on DVD to rent. Still, I’m sure lots of people out there watch the show (like my friend Eric whom you might know from our podcast) and are very excited it’s coming back tonight.

The Soup

THE SOUP - 10pm E!
Joel McHale has a way of putting the highlights from the week that always makes me laugh. He finds something to make fun of in everything.

THE REST

LAS VEGAS “A Hero Ain’t Nothin’ But A Sandwich, Shrink Rap” - 9pm NBC
I used to watch the show and really liked the first season, but then it became so cheesy, I couldn’t take it anymore (and yes I know it’s ironic that I’m saying that since I watch Ghost Whisperer). I don’t know, it just lost its appeal to me.

NUMB3RS “Trust Metric” - 10pm CBS
I do enjoy Numb3rs once in a while, but again it’s the same story as for CSI, Cold Case, Criminal Minds, etc. Actually, you know what the the funny thing when you keep watching these shows all the time? You start figuring out who the guilty person is halfway through the episode.
