Giveaway: ICE ROAD TRUCKERS Prize Pack

Tonight, the History channel will premiere a new eight-part television event, EXPEDITION AFRICA: STANLEY & LIVINGSTONE. The show follows a group of explorers who will travel 970 miles through African terrain using only a compass and basic maps. The goal: relive Stanley's perilous journey to find Dr. David Livingstone.

Personally, Expedition Africa is not my cup of tea. Watching people walking through bushes and swamps, just didn't not capture my interest at all. Maybe it's because I don't like trekking, or camping or anything like that, it's hard for me to find their expedition interesting. Plus, in general I am not a big reality show fan.

I can't say that the explorers were that interesting to follow either. I don't think I really related to any of them or that any really stood out to me as someone I would like to watch week after week.

However, I did hear that a lot of people did enjoy the show, so maybe if the subject matter sounds interesting to you, you might want to give it a shot.

Overall, I don't think the format is all that original, it's a typical reality show, with a different main story. But to be perfectly objective, the subject matter is not really something that holds any interest for me, so that might have been one of the main reason that I didn't find the show as entertaining as others did.

Cities of the Underworld follows Don Wildman as he goes underneath the world's most famous cities to uncover their secrets.

In the first episode, Don Wildman visits London and investigates what lies beneath. He takes us on a journey to discover the places where some witch rituals and devil worship were held. But what I found to be the most fun was when Don Wildman showed us the place where Sweeney Todd would put the bodies before they were used for the meat pies. After seeing the movie, it was kind of freaky to see the place where it all really happened.

Cities of the Underworld could be a very interesting show to watch if you are interested in finding out the secrets that lay underneath the cities.

I personally I am not that curious, but I found the first episode very intriguing. We always think about the monuments we can see on the surface, but never think about everything that lays beneath. So many secrets.

Among those interviewed in the special are Andrew Young, Former President Bill Clinton, Harry Belafonte, Chuck D, Forest Whitaker, Rep. John Lewis and many others.

KING brings to life many aspects of his unwavering fight for civil rights: his decision to join the bus boycott in Montgomery, Alabama; the fateful march in Selma; his incarceration in Birmingham; the march on Washington; and his tragic death in Memphis. It shows his personal struggles and triumphs, moments of doubt and weakness, and his humility and humanity.

"With every passing year we have a greater understanding of the magnitude of Dr. King's achievements and the historic place he occupies in the pantheon of American heroes,” said Brokaw. “As a young reporter in the South I was witness to his courage and his oratorical genius in the face of often violent resistance to the idea that every American should have equal rights. KING - Martin Luther King Jr. Special on the History Channel

I recently took a look at the first episode from the History channel's new series, AX MEN, and my first reaction was "These guys are crazy!"

Ax Men follows the life of Pacific Northwest timber cutters. The thing you need to know is that this job is dangerous, really dangerous, most of the people working there have had a work related injury or even worse, have seen their friends die on the job. Everyday is a matter of life and death, one single mistake and everything could go wrong.

Now I'm sure you're wondering "but why would they keep working there?" Well, I don't have an answer to that, but if you are curious to find out more about who these people are, then watching Ax Men is a good place to start.

I am usually not a big fan of reality shows, especially the ones that follow people around because you can always tell that everything is somewhat staged, but with Ax Men, it feels like they really are documenting the lives of these people, which I find very refreshing.

There is some cursing in the show, which I found very genuine because it wasn't there for a shocking effect, it was just their way of talking when they are on the job - you need to understand, this is a very stressful job. However, I do wonder whether the final airing version will have the words bleeped out or whether they will keep the authenticity of the show in that way.

There isn't much else I can tell you about Ax Men, because it is really a show you need to experience by watching. Anything I say will not convey what these people go through everyday. You need to see it to believe it. It's pretty incredible.

Ax Men premieres on Sunday February 9th at 10pm on the History channel.

I finally took a look at the first episode from The History Channel's UFO HUNTERS (which I wrote about here) called "The UFO Before Roswell."

In the episode, the team examines an incident that took place two weeks before the now-famous report of a UFO crash in Roswell, New Mexico.

First I would like to mention that the whole UFO "obsession" is not really my thing. If it turns out I switch the channel and find an interesting program about it, I might watch it, but I won't go out of my way to find something about it. What I did like about the episode was that the UFO Hunters team was really trying to find what had happened and didn't shove the UFO theory down our throat. If it turned out that the evidence proved that the materials found were from out of this world, then fine but if not, then that's it.

Obviously the first episode doesn't answer everything since it is a series, so you can expect more investigations in future episodes about different unexplained events.

If finding out about unexplained events and UFO interests you, then you might enjoy watching UFO Hunters on Wednesdays at 10pm on The History Channel.

UFO HUNTERS - A new series on The History Channel

It is a humbling experience to watch the History Channel’s new documentary LIFE AFTER PEOPLE. The premise of the show goes like this: What would happen if people disappeared all of a sudden? What would happen to our homes, our cities, our cars and our environment?

The answer to those questions is brilliantly demonstrated in a two-hour scientific explanation of what would likely occur after people were gone. Let me tell you one thing: it’s not pretty. What we take for granted today would transform in unexpected ways. For example, the soil would eat away at your house, rust would do a number on skyscrapers and your dearly beloved dog would go back to being a vicious predator.

Now I don’t want to paint a grim picture here. What I took away from the show is that humanity is not what we think of it. Fundamentally, we are not as important as we think we are. Although it comforts us to believe that we are the top of the food chain, we are nothing more than a dot in the history of the world. So in that spirit, I believe it is important that we strive to make the best of it and enjoy every moment thoroughly because after all, there will be life after people.
