Here is a news for all the MOONLIGHT fans out there, Alex O'Loughlin has signed a talent holding deal with CBS under which he will star in a new series for the network that will be developed by Mark Gordon (Grey's Anatomy, Army Wives, Criminal Minds).

Ok, so it might not be Moonlight, but at least it means that we will get to see Alex O'Loughlin once more on TV. And with the show produced by Mark Gordon I think we can expect something good.

Here it is finally, Part Two of our JASON DOHRING interview from our set of the late MOONLIGHT. I thought that some of you might still be interested in reading what else he had to say. (You can view part one here.)

What is like going from being in "Veronica Mars" where you played a young character to "Moonlight" where you play a vampire that is centuries old?

Jason Dohring: It's tough, just because when you play somebody who's been around one lifetime it's a bit easier to understand, they have more of a limited experience than someone who's been around eight lifetimes. That's just been kind of the challenge. There is no new situation, everything is kind of you've seen before, so when you give advice to Mick or something like that it's just "Please, this happened to me 200 years ago."

How does it feel to be back on the set after the long break?

JD: It's rad. It's so cool, we've been doing some really awesome stuff. Really I'm not bullshitting, you guys are gonna love the next episode, it's unbelieveable. I saw one scene of it in the editing room, and I was emotional for like the next hour and a half, and you know usually it's like for 5 minutes. We have this score which is just amazing, a 30 piece orchestra. It was scored by the director and he got in there with those guys and he was like "play your instruments like you are never going to play them again," and they just went crazy. It was so cool.

Did you use your break to work on your character?

JD: Yes, I did actually. I think that (episode) 13 and 14 I'm starting to get what this guy is really about. So I'm curious to know what you guys think, because I think it'll be kind of different.

When do you think we'll finally see that knock out fight between you and Mick?

JD: I think for the most part it'll be me and him kicking somebody else's ass, but at some point that would be kind of cool to see what it would be like. We both probably would get a little bit of a beat down. They just haven't written that yet.

What was your reaction and that of the cast to win the People's Choice Awards?

JD: It was unbelievable. It's actually funny because from "Veronica Mars," this (Moonlight) was nominated, "Gossip Girl" with Kristen (Bell) was nominated, and "Private Practice" with Chris Lowell was nominated, so it was like we had an alumni cast in all of the different things that were nominated. Obviously the best won.

Do you know how Josef first became a vampire?

JD: I don't yet. But I know he's from some kind of a good bloodline.

Did you ever run into fans who think they're actual vampires or vampire hunters?

JD: I've had people go, "do you believe in vampires?" And I'm like "No, no." And they're like, "Do you believe in vampires?" So yeah, people are... I don't know if I think they're real or not or that sort of thing, but it certainly is interesting. I think there is a part of the human aspect of being an immortal and more powerful than you probably think you are, so I think that people see that and it turns them on because they're like "wow."

What are you a fan of?

JD: Good art, good acting but also I don't know I'm kind of getting more into seeing that kind of, just artists, people that can change lives just with what they do, what they are, and the flow that they can put on or off, in their work or even in life. I've just kind of been noticing that with some of my friends that I've been hanging out with, and all of a sudden there's music that's so beautiful, you know what I mean and I'm just playing it in my room and it's like "wow." Stuff like that. I really enjoy and talking about acting with Sophia and Alex outside, we're smoking a cigar and having a great time, it's just life you know.

What made you want to become an actor?

JD: I didn't want to become an actor until about four years ago and I've been acting since. I was about eight and I got in because I have twin brothers and twin sisters, they are both identical twins, and when they're really young they just use one of them and then the other one because they can only work about three hours. So we got them into commercials and stuff like that and then when I was about - probably a year before "Veronica Mars" - I was like, I want to be awesome and that was kind of the start of it for me. I almost don't know if it was so much about acting as it was about doing good work. I want to do work that would blow people away and I guess that is about acting in a way but it was just like that was kind of the product or the thing I was thinking of achieving. I want to change people's lives and make it mean something to me, and I think that's why "Veronica (Mars)" was so much. It was a character that you could really get into so much and you can take a little thing and make it mean so much to you and then it means more to the audience. It's simple enough as an actor to dramatize things, I mean it could be a simple thing but if somebody has a huge backstory behind it, then they tell you something, and you're like "wow." Doing that type of stuff is fantastic and when you look at actors that do that it turns you on. You're like "wow, that's cool."

If you ever became a vampire in real life, do you think you would follow Mick's or Josef's path?

JD: I think a mixed path I would imagine. I mean I'm not going to be hedonistic and go sleep with a bunch of women or something like that, I'll leave that to my acting career. Yeah, I mean you got to find a way to do something good with it. I think he does.

Would you like to see Josef go to a lightside?

JD: I don't think so. I think he is more interesting in that he does what he does. But I think there will be moments where it drops in. Because I always thought that once upon a time he was kind of like Mick and then kind of dropped over the edge that Mick is not over yet, as far as holding on to the morals sort of and keeping his life together and trying to make it work. Rightly or wrongly, I kind of like to think with that I guess.

What artists do you admire?

JD: Oh man, I don't know. Everybody always says all the Brando and Dean and stuff like that, but if you really watch them, instead of watching the whole movie, say you watch one scene twenty times. I think that's probably the best advice you can give to an actor because you would watch it and you'd be like "ok cool," and then you rewind it and watch it again and you go "oh look at that look at the way he's standing, that's cool." Rewind it again "Holy shit!" look at all that stuff he does in like three seconds. Everytime they're on film, and especially the earlier years of Brando, he would do cool stuff in every bit of film and I'm always upset when people are like "yeah, but he got so fat and he's just crazy," and I'm like "Dude, in every film he was awesome." Even if it's one or two unbelievable choices or moments, it was never just walking through it. I think that that is so admirable, and the fact that he played so many different characters, it's incredible. That definitely shaped my career, just studying those guys, because you get a style, and you kind of watch how they move and you're like"dude that is so cool, I want to do that." Don't copy them, but you pick up on it. It's just that they move with grace and beauty and I think that's something that can be learned and you can use that in your work. It feels like Inside The Actors Studio doesn't it? (Laughs)

Note: Since Jason Dohring made the joke about Inside The Actor Studio, he volunteered his favorite curse word: "c*&$sucker."

What's your greatest fear?

JD: My greatest fear is probably burning alive, I think that would be so bad. Because it would probably take a while and you'd be in extreme pain.

Who is your favorite person to work with on "Moonlight"?

JD: I've mostly worked with Alex (O'Loughlin), so I'd say Alex. But I've had a couple of scenes with Sophia (Myles) and I just like to watch her, because she's very talented. Especially in real life, you watch her and you're just like "wow." She'll have a line and it's a hard line, something that I would probably have to work on to make it sound not artificial, but she just does it, just like that, like nothing. So I learn from watching her, she's just in it. She just does it and doesn't ever look in or question it, she just kind of goes and it's very beautiful.

It is with a broken heart that I will tune in tonight and watch what is the very last episode of MOONLIGHT. For those who don't know yet, Moonlight has been cancelled. The good news is that this episode looks really good and we'll at least leave Moonlight on a good note. And after that I guess we will be looking forward to the DVD so that we can watch the 16 episodes over and over again.

I really wish all the actors of the show good luck and I hope to see them in other great shows/movies soon.

Update 5/13 (by Sandie): It's official, Moonlight has been cancelled! Watch With Kristin just received a message from Gabrielle Stanton and Harry Werksman, the bosses of Moonlight:

It's true. We found out about an hour ago that Moonlight has been officially canceled.

We are truly saddened by the news and are sorry that we won't get the chance to live with our wonderful characters and follow them on their adventures for a second season.

We really want to thank all our loyal fans for their undying love and support of the show. We never would have made it this far without them.

I'm going to go and cry now!

Is MOONLIGHT cancelled? Maybe. Watch With Kristin reports that CBS made a decision that affects the show in a big way.

My personal favorite Moonlight source just informed me of rumblings that the show was not looking good for a season-two pickup.

No mention of Moonlight on CBS' 2008-09 schedule, which does not bod well for the vampire-detective drama as there are a lot of dramas that are being picked up this season. So many dramas could mean that CBS could cancel Moonlight if any of the new dramas do well.

If Moonlight was canceled, it would be a terrible blow to the fans who have devoted so much time, effort, and blood (litteraly) to keep this show going.

Shame on you, CBS for even considering cancelling Moonlight.

CBS will officially announced its 2008-09 schedule at the Upfronts on Wednesday, May 14. Stay tuned for more info.

Oh Fridays, I love Fridays! And yes, the fact that we get a new episode of MOONLIGHT has something to do with it. Plus this week is the episode that they were shooting during our set visit and I am curious to see how it comes out on screen.

I cannot believe there are only two episodes left including this one. Make sure you enjoy them to the fullest because after that it's going to be a few months without Mick... I don't even want to think about what that's going to be like.

Interview: JASON DOHRING from MOONLIGHT (Part One)

Is everybody ready for the new episodes of MOONLIGHT? I know I am. This is why now is the perfect time to give you some more information and minor spoilers about what is coming up on Moonlight, and trust me, it's good!

Moonlight is coming back this Friday, April 25, at 9pm on CBS.

In addition, I also wanted to share pictures from the set of Moonlight.

So without further ado.

In the first episode back, "Fated to Pretend" (you can view pictures from the episode here), Mick is enjoying being human. He's going to the beach and eating a LOT.

In the opening of the episode, there is a montage which shows Mick waking up in the morning from the couch, then going to the refrigerator, pushing the blood away and taking out the orange juice.

The fact that Mick is human also sort of takes away all the barriers between Beth and him, because the one thing that was keeping them apart was that he was a vampire, and now he's not...

However, this is a show about vampires and so Mick will become a vampire again by the end of the episode. Now here is the exciting part, Mick becomes a vampire again, but it's not because the potion wears off ...and that's as much as I can say. So you guessed it, the interesting part is finding out how Mick gets turned back again.

On the day that we went to the set of Moonlight, they were shooting the third episode back, "What's Left Behind."

Here is what we learned about the episode. We know about Mick's past a little bit. We know how he was turned, but this episode takes us back to when Mick was in the army during World War II, before he was turned. During the flashback, we find out about Mick's best friend, Ray, and Ray's wife, Lilah, and a little bit of what transpired to Mick before he was turned.

The way the episode goes into the flashback is because it relates to the case Mick is working on at the moment. The case brings him to the same neighborhood he used to live in. It's sort of a parallel story between a case that Mick and Beth are working on now and a flashback to what happened before Mick was turned.

And here is something to keep you guessing, so far we haven't learned a lot about Mick's family, but when we go back in Mick's past, there is a potential for him to have a family. And again that is all I am allowed to say.

Here is the official synopsis of the episode: "Beth learns more about Mick's secretive past when the grandson of Mick's WWII war buddy is kidnapped."

Finally, let's talk about the new character, ADA Benjamin Talbot. He is a potential love interest for Beth, and just like Mick and Beth run into each other solving cases, they run into Talbot as well.

And for the last teaser, the fact that ADA Talbot runs into Beth and that Beth is a little disenchanted with Buzzwire leads to Talbot making her an offer that she almost can't refuse.

MOONLIGHT - Set Visit & Alex O'Loughlin Interview Preview

Can't wait to get some new episodes of MOONLIGHT? Neither can we.

That is why I thought it was time to share some pictures from the all new Moonlight episode, "Fated to Pretend" which will air on April 25.

Update: I added one more picture from the episode of Mick and Josef below. It looks pretty cool! Actually, Jason Dohring was talking about how fun it was to become a vampire for the first time when we interviewed him during our visit of the set of Moonlight, but more on that later.

Oh how I missed Mick and Beth! This episode looks like we're going to jump right back into the vampire world we have come to love. Although if you look at the pictures, you can tell that there will be a little time away from Mick's vampire world and into his dream world of being human. And what better way to celebrate your humanness than by going to the beach.

Fun fact: I think they shot this in Zuma Beach. It's a pretty nice beach actually.

MOONLIGHT - "Fated to Pretend" (S01E13) Pictures and Preview Clip

Last week, SOPHIA MYLES, who plays reporter Beth Turner in CBS' MOONLIGHT, took some time to speak with a few reporters.

Sophia Myles comes from England and is thus part of what we call this season's British Invasion, not that we are complaining.

In our interview, Sophia Myles talks about some of the differences between working in England and in the United States. She also shares some of her views on the whole celebrity thing, and how she stays away from it. Finally, she looks forward to Moonlight's return as much as we do.

What is in store for Beth when the show comes back?

Sophia Myles: Well I don't know yet until the strike is over. I'm not sure and it's very exciting. I mean I think you'll see in the final episode, talk about leaving the audience hanging. When I read the script, you just want to know more and I think there's definitely a story for us still to tell. I won't be satisfied if we don't come back and make anymore, but we'll see.

Have you seen any preliminary ideas or anything?

SM: No, everyone's speculating, everyone's excited. We're just waiting, waiting for the strike to lift, but just having won the people's choice awards and Alex, I've just been told that Alex has been voted the sexiest man (one of the sexiest stars on TV) by TV Guide, and we love making it so much and people seem to really love it. It's all very optimistic.

There's been a few different executive producers on "Moonlight" since it was first presented at Comic Con, are you surprised how well everything turned out?

SM: Yeah. (laughs) I'm baffled because it's like, it's strange, Moonlight is such a force to be reconned with, because I had no idea what I was getting myself involved with coming over here making this show. I kind of saw a pilot that they had shot before and I didn't know if it had any life. I didn't know and it has been this organic thing that A) refuses to die and B) it just gets stronger and stronger, and I think more and more powerful and sexy and exciting each show. So bring it on. I think there needs to be more.

What attracts you to a role? What kind of qualities to you look for in a role or a script?

SM: If I want to go on the adventure, you know, if I read the story and I want to go to that world and experience that. It's as simple as that. I think I'm a storyteller, it's like, am I interested in this guy on this journey and can I kind of bring something to this that's gonna make it even better than what's already on the page? What's my part in this? I don't know, I like to play strong women. It's hard to find really good roles for women, so I like to play females that are really well written and not just written for men, not just written to be just the sex object because that's boring and lots of people can do that. I'm interested in the workings of the female mind.

Daemon's TV: As an actor how do you prepare for parts?

SM: You know I am like the most non-method person for acting. I kind of figure it out as I go along. You start thinking about it once you've read the script. It kind of helps once you see the costume or meet the costume designer. It's a collaborative thing you see, it's not just me creating Beth Turner, there's somebody who designs her clothes, then there's my make-up artist, there's hairstylists, and then there's the set designer who designs her apartment. If you think about it, someone's apartment is as important, it tells you a lot about a character so it's kind of a cumulative, collaborating thing rather.

In your "Doctor Who" episode you play a very interesting woman also where you're in love with an immortal, is that something that attracted you to the "Moonlight" role?

SM: I never thought about that actually and I realized only recently there are a lot of parallels between the Moonlight story and that Doctor Who episode, "The Girl in the Fireplace," actually. But no, I hadn't thought about that at the time.

There seems to be so many fantastic actresses coming from Britain lately, like yourself and Ashley Jensen and Lena Heady, do you guys keep in touch in Los Angeles?

SM: It's sort of the British Invasion this year, we've all kind of come over because there's no work in England, there's no industry over there, it's rubbish. So I've become good friends with Anna Friel. I've known of her and she's known of me cause we're kind of the same age and we always kind of been up for the same roles over the last decade, but she's a lead on Pushing Daisies, so she's been here. We talk on the telephone because it's a big experience. Moving to a foreign country is a big deal, but also working on American television if you've never done it before. I mean, I plan to write a handbook for anyone that's never done it, because it's such a different experience than making a film. It's a big deal, so we would kind of compare notes and leave meltdown message "Oh my God, you'll never believe what they made me do today." And it's funny.

What are the differences or the similarities between working in the industry in the United Kingdom and in the US?

SM: Well the one thing I'll tell you, and I'm not complaining here, but the hours, God I mean they really work you hard. We're talking sometimes, it's six days a week and it can be sometimes up to sixteen hours a day, on a really tough day. You're working a lot, when you're on the show, you're pretty much always at work. You might be home for only ten percent of your time. And it's fast. You know on films there's lot sitting around and having cups of tea while they're setting the lights, but in America it's go-go-go, but it's good it keeps you on your toes.

Daemon's TV: Can you tell us how you got the part of Beth?

SM: Yeah, I was written a letter from the producers of the show and Joel Silver's people basically asking me to come and do it and so I kind of couldn't really believe it at first, I didn't think that it was legitimate just because I couldn't believe that I would be offered something so magical like this out right without auditioning or anything. But they had already made a pilot and then they were kind of recasting and changing everything around and they were going to kind of reshoot the pilot. So I just was so intrigued by the opportunity to come and be in Los Angeles already with a job, you know, paid to come and do a fabulous job working at Warner Brothers. I mean I couldn't say no really, I would have been an absolute idiot. So I was just kind of interested in the kind of adventure of it all, it sounded so different to me, and that's how it happened.

You've had quite a few roles in genre title, "Underworld," "Doctor Who," "Moonlight," are you a fan of sci-fi or horror?

SM: I love sci-fi, I don't know about horror. Horror freaks me out, like I'm not gonna watch any of it because I just get terrified and then can't sleep on my own you know, stupid. And vampires, I can take or leave them. I like science fiction, anything kind of other planets and all that kind of stuff, I like that.

With Josh now dead, was it something you were surprised at how quickly within the first nine episodes the love triangle has been evaporated?

SM: No, I thought for a long time especially after Beth and Mick had kissed, I was saying to the producers "come on guys, she needs to deal with this, morally be a good girl and she's gonna need to be honest with Josh and end it or stop hanging out with Mick." You know you can't really send him off on vacation, that's not really dealing with it, because he disappeared for a few episodes if you remember, and then he was back. So when they finally did end the relationship, I mean I thought it was a little extreme killing him, but there you go. But I'm glad, I mean not that I'm glad he's dead obviously especially for Jordan Belfi, the actor who played him, but I'm relieved in a sense that that kind of dilemma is gone, it makes it so exciting and kind of deep now because it's such a huge thing, I mean it's really traumatic what's happened to her.

What has been your favorite project to be a part of?

SM: Well, so many I mean if you say favorite in terms of the film that I think is the best as a finished piece or the film that I loved working on the most. "Tristan + Isolde" was such a magical experience, the scenery and working in Ireland, just completely took my breath away. And then I had a great time on "Thunderbirds." I love being on films, I love making films, like I love my job, so kind of all of them for different reasons. but the best ones are when you really luck out and you work with great people. Working with Alex O'Loughlin for example, that's such a joy of Moonlight, and then I loved working with Jamie Bell. I did a film with him that's coming out this year in the United States. It's a film I did with Jamie Bell, directed by David Mackenzie, and it's called "Hallam Foe." It's the name of the central character, and that's really interesting. Then another film called "Outlander" with James Caviezel, John Hurt, and Ron Perlman. It's set in 709 AD and this alien ship crash lands on planet earth. It's kind of a science fiction slash period drama, very interesting. I play a viking warrior princess in that one. And in the other one, the Jamie Bell film, I play a hotel manager in Scotland.

Daemon's TV: How would describe the atmosphere on the set on Moonlight?

SM: It's funny, it's a family. We have our good days and we have our bad days, but when it's good, it's amazing. There's a lot of laughter, it's infectious. I think because there's such talented people working on this show across the board everyone, all the actors are really strong, the directors are fantastically creative, everyone's clever so there's a really great creative sets. We're a good one.

What is your biggest fear?

SM: Human beings scare me, probably more than vampires. I don't know, human beings scare me, but I'll tell you, the ocean scares me. I'm ok if it's a clear white sandy bottom like in the Seychelles or somewhere exotic, but when it's too deep and murky I'm really scared. I mean even when I'm in the swimming pool I think a shark's gonna come out of trapped door somewhere, you know what I mean. (Laughs)

Were you surprised with the finale? Is it a good cliffhanger?

SM: They leave you hanging. I've just seen the last scene, I haven't seen the whole episode yet, but yeah it's left totally open ended and utterly unsatisfactory as far as I'm concerned. There must be more episodes of Moonlight given the way that we leave it.

Have you guys pretty much written off the rest of the season because of the strike?

SM: I have no idea, I'm just waiting now. We're all kind of very excited because we just won the People's Choice Awards, it's great fan base. As soon as the strike lifts I think we're all hoping that we, you know, off we go again, so fingers crossed. Well if they're not I'm going to be going knocking on to somebody's door at CBS. I really hope that we make more.

You mentioned in a previous interview that you try to lead as normal a life as possible. There are so many well known faces in Los Angeles that you don't necessarily stand out in the crowd, does it make it easier to go about your life?

SM: Oh I could talk hours on this subject. I think it's absolutely fascinating this whole celebrity thing, which I'm not a part of and I never want to be a part of. There's no one that's walking around being followed by paparazzi that has not courted that, that has not started that, if you know what I mean. That stuff doesn't happen out of nowhere. That is a two-sided relationship and it's very easy to stay well clear of it. If I talk to the press I'm talking about my work, I'm not talking about what I did on a Friday night, you know. So it's pretty simple. But it's sad I think when young girls aren't protected by either their families or don't have a close adult confident to keep them. It's a very scary beast now, especially in this day and age. I mean poor Britney Spears, she's the first, this is a whole new thing you know, a hord of men with cameras following around a young mother, I mean that didn't happen even five years ago. Somebody needs to do something about it because it's very scary. Anyway, that's that.

Daemon's TV: I read a few trivia facts on your imdb page and I was curious to know if they were true. It says that you listen to Tracy Chapman, that your favorite movie is "The Goonies," and that you speak German and French. Is any of that true?

SM: No, I don't necessarily speak German and French. I can understand German pretty well. I haven't spoken it for years though. French no, that's not true. I can understand though if somebody was being rude about me in French or German. And the same goes with Italian, if someone was rude about me I'd know. "The Goonies," no. I mean I've got lots of different favorite films so I would say no that's not really true, but I do love it, it's one of my favorite childhood films. And yeah, I like Tracy Chapman but I like a lot of other stuff. Other music, I'm quite into Snow Patrol at the moment.

You don't get to work a lot with Jason Dohring, are you hoping that would change when the show comes back?

SM: Yeah it would be nice. Jason's great, he's really cool. He's a nice guy so yeah it would be great. I want to work with Shannyn (Sossamon) though, she's who I really want to work with.

Why do you want to work with Shannyn Sossamon?

SM: I think she's great. I was a fan of her ages ago. I was really excited when I found out she was on the show. I loved her from "Knight's Tale," I just think she's great, she's gorgeous. She's my friend now so it'd be fun. We laugh a lot.

Interview: SOPHIA MYLES from MOONLIGHT on CBS

You better enjoy it because this is the last new MOONLIGHT episode we will get for a while. After a great episode last week, I am looking forward to finding out where Mick and Beth stand. Plus Coraline is back in this episode, which means we might find out how she came back.

I am worried about the cliffhanger because according to Alex O'Loughlin and Sophia Myles (whose interview I will post soon), the ending will leave us wanting for more. How will we survive until we get a new episode?!

MOONLIGHT - "The Mortal Cure" (1x12) Pictures, Promo, and Preview Clip

MOONLIGHT is back! Friday's episode "Love Lasts Forever" was another great episode of Moonlight, full of Mick and Beth, just as we like them.

The action in the episode was pretty cool, the vampire fights awesome. And I think the best scene was probably when Mick gets a confession out of the drug lord's right hand man by transforming into a vampire and scaring the sh** out of him.

Finally we see some of the advantages to being a vampire. Especially at the end when he fights these two guys by jumping over the car, now that was a cool move.

Moving on to the sad part, Beth's boyfriend Josh bites the dust. I guess there is nothing standing in the way of Beth and Mick now... oh wait, maybe the fact that Beth blames Mick for Josh's death might be a problem.

The episode also finally revealed what Alex O'Loughlin meant in our interview with him when he said "Something’s coming up in 11 [episode], that puts a big spinner in the works and affects the way Beth feels about Mick, and also affects the way Mick views Beth."

It's just so sad that there is only one episode left to explore that new dynamic.

It feels like there are some things I am forgetting to mention, but I just love Moonlight so much I never really have anything negative to say. I will say this, I am glad Josh is out of the picture, but I wish they hadn't killed him because now we have to deal with the whole grief thing and that delays Mick and Beth getting together even more.

What a great episode though, my eyes were locked on the TV. Can't wait for next week.

MOONLIGHT Review - "Love Lasts Forever" (1×11)

MOONLIGHT is finally back! YES!!!

The Bad News: This is the first of the two last episodes shot.

The Good News: Moonlight won the People's Choice Awards (congratulations), which probably means that it will be back for the rest of the season (after the strike is over of course).

For now I'll just be in denial and be happy about the new episode, "Love Lasts Forever," we will be getting on January 11th at 9pm.

And can I just say CBS makes the best promos, after watching it I wished I had the episode to watch right away. I guess it's good there are only a few hours to wait before Moonlight is back for two weeks.

MOONLIGHT - "Love Lasts Forever" (1x11) Pictures and Promo

Last week, I got to take part in a conference call with JASON DOHRING who plays Josef Kostan on CBS' MOONLIGHT. Jason Dohring talked about things from the future of his character on Moonlight to his approach to acting.
After listening to all the wonderful things he had to say, I can honestly say that Jason Dohring is very passionate about his acting, which makes it that much more fun to watch him act. It was such a pleasure to be able to hear his thoughts on acting and how he prepares for a role. So without further ado, here is the interview.
(Daemon's TV questions are in blue)

Daemon’s TV: How is your experience on "Moonlight" different from your experience on "Veronica Mars"?
Jason Dohring: Yeah, there’s a couple things I guess. The characters are obviously a bit different. You know, I think, you have the beach kid or whatever, they both have really interesting stories. I think it's funny that Josef was kind of the expansion of a character, not for Logan, but it’s like the 400 years aspect, as we’ll find more about as the story unfolds. There’s so much history. As an actor, each new script that comes out, you kind of add to that. You don’t know beforehand, when you first started, what your history is, but you sort of learn as you do it. You’re kind of picking that up and putting that into your character as the episodes come out. So I think it adds a little more to the storyline like that. And I think, just being on CBS is quite a bit different. There's obviously a bigger cast. You’re at Warner Bros which is quite close to my house so I don’t have to trek down to San Diego, which is kind of nicer. And just those two aspects more than anything else.

Do you know if the show will be delving more into Josef’s past, more of his past loves, and how he managed to become so successful?
JD: Absolutely. I think the successful thing comes more in the first episode, with the hedge fund trader, and he owns real estate and stuff like that and he’s done well through that. In this episode [“Sleeping Beauty”] this Friday, you find out basically why he’s always concerned about Mick dating humans and being with humans, like what is that? There’s basically a personal reason that Josef’s gone through. I don’t know if it’s proper or whatever, but I always kind of take the idea that maybe Josef has gone through what Mick’s going through. Maybe one time he was a good person and that sort of thing, and I think you’ll sort of see glimpses of that, you know, with my former hairstyle, and my really nice suit in New York there’s stuff like that you’ll see in this week’s episode.

How do you prepare for a role like this, where you’re sort of eternally young and going through these things?
JD: I can’t quite help that, because I just am young, you know what I mean? As far as the role, it’s an ongoing thing. If you could study all the things on vampires, you’d be at it for longer than you can live in a life, because there’s so many books on that sort of thing. We kind of have our own code, and I’ve just kind of been picking up things. Before I even started I was reading some Ann Rice books, getting a feel of what vampires are like, why are they different from humans. I think there’s a lot to do with ESP. They can tell when other vampires are nearby, they can tell who’s human, they can perceive what’s really going on, and I think those are really cool character elements for an actor to be able to work on. I’m very happy to be able to have that opportunity. Every actor wants to play a vampire.

What about the character made him interesting to you? What are some of your favorite things about him?
JD: Yeah, actually it came to me as basically two pages was the audition scene. Originally it was an older guy and they hadn’t finished the script yet, so the two pages I got was essentially the first scene that was in the pilot episode, on the phone, and I’m sort of talking to Mick and he comes in. I was immediately fascinated with the character, because he’s very, very, very sharp, you know? I don’t know, very keen, has a very hard edge. And then, I guess as it sort of develops you got more, just like the writers do their thing, and then you see more backstory and kind of get familiar with the character and you see where he’s been, and kind of what the history was that led to him becoming who he is. It just gets more interesting over time, but it started out cool.

Josef is so paranoid about the humans finding out about the vampire community. But he’s got this massive staff at least some of whom aren’t vampires. Are we ever going to get into how he gets a hold of his staff, how he keeps control of them to keep that from getting out?
JD: Yeah, I think that it will probably come out at some point, if it gets too out of hand, people are just like “come on please” and it doesn’t become believable. I think he has a lot of poise. He’s able to keep his guys at bay. I don’t know to what degree he disposes of these guys or not. There was talk in the earlier episodes that he’s kind of this ruthless guy, then you kind of see that maybe there’s other things and he does have humanity. Yeah, I think it would be an interesting point. I think mostly he just bankrolls them. I don’t know I’ll just make it up - he wipes them out afterwards.

D: Is Josef going to get a love interest in the near future?
JD: That’s fantastic man. I hope it’s a woman. You actually find out that… you’ll see some really cool stuff in this next episode. I don’t know if that’s too much of a spoiler or that sort of thing, but you’ll definitely see some love interest and why there’s a… I don’t know you’ll see, I don’t know how to explain it or whatever. I think he would. Like Logan, he’s probably a tough guy to live with. There was an episode with Lola or whatever, he had some history there, kind of an on again off again thing. But I would really like to see somebody that could really match him, and that he fights with and they get back together. It would be quite a passionate relationship.

How many episodes are left with the strike, what are we going to see? Do you have any information on that?
JD: Les Moonves said some kind stuff about our show and The Big Bang Theory perhaps coming back for a second season. I can’t speak for the producers, but I think that was given in a press interview, which is obviously a good sign. There’s a lot of plus points. Our show is one of two shows that have been up-trending in viewership, so obviously that’s a good sign. We’re right around 8 million, which is pretty high. Having CBS as backup, promo-ing the show; while you’re sitting there watching golf and see a promo, that helps out a lot. We just finished (shooting) number 12 about 3 or 4 days ago. It was very good. It’s really cool, there’s a vampire that comes that makes me look like a popper, which is cool. It goes back in history and we have some great makeup and sets, and like this old world from a different time, feel to the show and the storyline comes out. I think it’ll be really cool to see how it all turns out because the sets were unbelievable, you know, makeup and George Washington hair and all that stuff.

Do you have the air date for that?
JD: I think it’s sometime in January. (Episodes) 11 and 12 are both gonna air in January.

Publicist: It’s gonna be January 4th and January 11th.

Going past episode 12, do you know anything about what your character is expected to see?
JD: It’s pretty much in the formulistic stages so far, with regard to that. Obviously, there’s no scripts written or we’d be trying to shoot them. But we have ideas of possible stuff and it’s pretty cool. The one thing I heard is basically a betrayal of Josef against Mick. Something he’s been telling him all along is not true, and it’s very important to Mick. So I think that’ll kind of lead to some really cool stuff. Yeah, there’s some great stuff coming up you guys, I’m so excited for you to see it. Particularly, in episode 11, I think you’re going to fall in love with Sophia (Myles) man, she’s just unreal this girl.

(Following on Josef betraying Mick.) Would you enjoy playing enemies with Mick for a while?
JD: Oh absolutely, I’m always kind of in favor of changing things around. You can always come back. But yeah I think that would be great. (Mick) can stand up to the best of them, so I’d love to see him tear me a new one.

A lot of the scenes that people have really responded to have been ones where there is real male camaraderie going on. Is there going to be more of that male bonding coming up? Or is that going to be fractured to the point that it won’t exist anymore?
JD: No, I hope it never gets to that, because that’s a big part of who these guys are. You know a big part of why I think Josef is in the storyline at all is because he’s somewhat of a mentor, a safe person that Mick can ask things about or get information or ask about certain experiences that he’s going through and how they relate to Josef’s knowledge and experience of the same situation maybe earlier. I hope not, because I love those scenes, I enjoy them the most too. A lot of that banter back and forth. Hopefully, we’ll get a lot more. I’m right with you on that one.

D: There’s a lot of action on "Moonlight" and I was wondering if Josef was going to get in on the action?
JD: Oh yeah, you know all they had was me slipping on the rooftop so far, which is the extent of my action, I don’t know if you saw that one, where I like jump up on the roof or whatever. Yeah there hasn’t been a lot, but I expect that there will be some more. I’d love to see him get in a fight. I’d be curious to see how they write it. I think perhaps, he f***ing, oops, sorry about that, just vamps out. He goes nuts or whatever, you know, he just totally loses his mind. I think that would be so cool you know.

The blood on this show, can you tell us what that actually is?
JD: Absolutely, there’s two generations of blood because we got love handles from the first one. It was pure sugar and you just wake up feeling horrible so we had to change it. The new generation is pomegranate juice and something else. It’s a concoction that the props guys make up. Yeah, it’s good. It’s quite sweet. It’s a little hard to keep a straight face when you’re taking it down, but that’s why they pay us the big bucks.

Obviously, vampires have been the big fear of many for years. What is your own personal biggest fear?
JD: Oh my God, great question! It’s funny. I think I would have to say looking around and seeing the way that the world is now as opposed to where it was 40-50 years ago, it’s pretty crazy. It’s funny for like a kid my age growing up, because it’s way different than my parents. They grew up with morals and manners and stuff like that and then I look around and I see some of my friends and I’m just like “damn, dude, where did that go?” and what happens when they have kids? You know what I mean? Really, I don’t think it’s a light matter. You look at hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of thousands of years, it’s been that way, and in the last 40 or 50 years it’s gone down man so it’s like, damn you gotta pick it back up. That’s scary to me.

Who are some of your favorite actors/actresses, who would you love to work with?
JD: Dude, I always see movies and I’m like “oh I would add that to my list if somebody ever asked me” and then here I am I can’t think. Brando, Dean, and Clift. Those are all no longer here, but I think Kevin Kline would be awesome to work with. I’d love to work with Ryan Gosling, I think he’s awesome. I think Jeff Bridges is unbelievable. I think he’s very underrated. Alfred Molina I love. I think Meryl Streep is fantastic, I think she does amazing work. Jessica Lange is beautiful.

To go along with that question, if you could do anything in the world, any type of project, what would it be?
JD: Gosh, I would probably do Shakespeare with the above guys. It would just be so amazing. The concepts in that, I don’t know, just with my horrible answer to what are you scared of, they deal with concepts like that in Shakespeare, you know what I mean? He saw these things, you know, he saw that sort of stuff, so when you get actors that can play that sort of thing. Like I just watched, did you guys see "Love Actually"? So good. There’s a scene with Emma Thompson, dude it just breaks your heart, man. She’s just talking to her husband, talking basically about this girl that he might be in love with or whatever, and then she totally lets it go and goes on to the next thing and shuts it out of her life. You just go "oh my god," it just breaks your heart. I love those moments in acting. That’s kind of what I try to find sometimes is, you see it through what that actually does and then take it on as a universal concept. Like when you see like this kid who gets hit by his dad or something like that, but if you really see that dude, and you see what that does to that kid throughout his life, then when you talk about it, it’s a little bit different, if you can actually see what that does, what the ramifications are. And I think that’s why these great actors are so good, because they make you feel it man, and they see it. And I think if you can see it, then you can put it in your acting.

D: Do you have any upcoming movie projects?
JD: I just messed around with some friends of mine. We did a little short that you’ll probably wind up seeing at some point. It’s only about 7 minutes long. I play a guy that’s not like any of these guys. It’s a really lovely story. I think you’ll see. I play like a really loose nice guy, and it’s a little bit cool for a change of pace. And then there are a couple movies I might be working on soon. It more or less depends on the strike though. I can’t be in the middle of a movie, and they call you back to work on this project and have to abandon the movie.

D: What’s the title of the short you mentioned?
JD: Yeah, it’s called “Struck.”

What are some shows that you watch on TV?
JD: Oh boy, I really enjoy Deadwood. I enjoy The Office, Family Guy. Let’s see what else, Moonlight, Veronica Mars, I don’t know, that’s about it (laughs).

D: How do you prepare emotionally for your parts? Do you have a technique, or do you use Method? What’s your approach?
JD: I suppose I just read it over and over and over and get my own idea of things I think. What I said earlier is kind of like more how I approach it. If you look at life, man if you can really see life, I think you can bring all that sort of knowledge to your acting. Gosh, it’s amazing man. I think the people that can’t, that don’t do that, don’t see that, are missing a lot that they could bring to their work. So I guess I just read something over and over and then kind of more, dramatize it I guess. You take a little line or a little piece of something and you look at it a bunch of different ways and see how it applies. You can add a story to it yourself if it’s not in the script and make it bigger for yourself. And then when you say it…you know what I mean? If you’re talking about, say your father, who is never mentioned before and that sort of thing, and it’s like, what that relationship was like, you know, so when you talk about it, you know. People feel that. When people are just talking to you in your everyday life and they’re talking to you about experiences that they’ve had, you get what they’re talking about, what they’re looking at when they’re talking to you, and I think if you create that as an actor you can create it however you want and I think that’s a really cool way to do it because it’s very creative, it doesn’t kind of lead you in the past, which I think Method is, I don’t know. It’s just the people I’ve seen do it… I don’t know, I don’t want to say anything I guess because there’s people that do it with great success, it’s just I think maybe there’s another way to do it where it’s not so hard on yourself, you know what I mean? Just with the creativity and present time, you can take it and make it whatever you want, based on your ideas of life, or your ideas about that certain situation. You can create it whatever way you want, based on the story, and how you want it to be looked at, what you want people to feel kind of from it. It’s beautiful actually.

D: You don’t take anything from your life, you’d rather imagine it?
JD: Yeah, totally, but not to the point where it’s like, oh I don’t know about that, when I do? It’s like if I’ve seen something in my life, I know what that’s like. I’m not going to not use my knowledge that I know of life, you know what I mean? I don’t consciously go back to that moment and feel that pain and pretend that that’s the first time, that sort of thing. It’s just like, yeah I know what that’s like to be broken up with, I know what that feels like, it’s like f***ing time just caves in on you, it’s f***ing unbelievable, it’s the worst feeling in the f***ing world, you know what I mean. Or when you break up with somebody else, you know, you see that all the time in drama and stuff like that, and if you really look at it, it’s probably one of the top five worst things that’s ever happened to you. And if you look at it like that, you really look at it, you come up with some really special stuff for those moments.

I read somewhere that you have two sets of identical twin siblings. Is that true?
JD: That’s right, yeah it’s absolutely true. They’re both identical, which doesn’t run in the family, like we don’t have twins anywhere in the family, because it’s not hereditary, but fraternal twins are. So it’s funny we don’t have twins anywhere in the family and then we had two sets so it’s like one in a million chance.

Jason Dohring and MOONLIGHT fans, this is for you.

In addition to playing Josef Kostan on "Moonlight," Jason Dohring recently starred for three seasons in the television series "Veronica Mars." His additional television credits include "Cold Case," "Judging Amy," "JAG," "Picket Fences," "The Division," "Boston Public," "Once and Again," "Roswell" and "Baywatch," as well as the telefilms "Black Cadillac," "Ready to Run" and "Someone She Knows."

Dohring's film credits include "Walking on Water" and "Deep Impact."

Raised in Glendale, California, Dohring lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Lauren. He is an expert skier and also enjoys snowboarding, water skiing, golf and boxing. His birth date is March 30.
